The inaugural No. 1 in these rankings, Texas Tech has established themselves as a force in college baseball and perennial Omaha contender. At the same time, their staff – led by recruiting coordinator J-Bob Thomas – has proven that they can and will go toe-to-toe with anyone in the nation on the trail. This class is highlighted by power righthanded arms, which, quite frankly, is what we’ve come to expect from Texas Tech pitchers. San Jac’s Brandon Birdsell is still reigning in his command a bit at times, but was into the upper-90s over the summer and projects as an impact piece. Fellow Gator Austin Hendrix was originally committed to Tech in the class of 2019, but opted to return to San Jac for anothe season, thus pushing back his commitment for one year. Cowley’s Miguel Obeso is a big, physical righthander who has been into the mid-90s with bowling ball sink, while most recent commit Chase Webster out of Chandler-Gilbert brings mid-90s heat of his own. Alvin lefthander Brandon Petix is the projection play at 6-foot-6 with real present stuff sitting in the 87-91 mph range with his fastball and missing bats with a good breaker. Walters State’s Braydon Runion is one of the higher-end JUCO bats in this cycle with plenty of strength in his righthanded swing that should play in the middle of the order long-term.
