West Memorial Day Classic Day 1 Recap

Az643 Baseball took their first game against the SGV Arsenal, beating them 16-4 in five innings. They scored in every inning but the fifth, starting with three in the first and second and 13 in the third and fourth innings. With a strong offensive showing, there were a total of nine players who brought at least one run in for the team. The top performers were Evan Hedlund going 2-2 with two extra-base hits, Jack Landry went 2-2 as well, and Jason Utash went 2-3 each with a double and a run scored. As for their pitching performance, Branden Cox and Caden Horn pitched two innings of their own with a combined four strikeouts but kept their competitors under three hits compared to Az643 Baseball’s 11. Cox ended the game with three hits, four runs, two strikeouts, and two walks. Horn finished with zero hits and runs and one strikeout and walk to close out their first win. In game two tomorrow afternoon, this team will face the Trosky Arizona 2029 Navy team to follow up on a great start to the tournament. 



In an 8-0 shutout, the T-Rex East Valley team took down the Clubhouse Prospects for their game on Friday. Throughout the game, they tallied up ten hits compared to the Clubhouse’s one. T-Rex scored two in the first and third and four in the fourth and fifth innings. The lineup had six players end with an RBI. The two top player performances were Nikkolas Serrano and Johnny Avila. Serrano led his team's offense, going 3-3 with one double and run scored. As for Avila, he pitched the most with five innings of work, only allowing one hit, two walks, and four strikeouts, balancing a 64-74 mph range, using mainly his fastball with a 60-mph curveball. Heading back in tomorrow, the T-Rex’s will face the Dirtbags Black Rivero team.

The Canes West 2028 Signature team defeated the MMW Arizona 2028 Gold in shutout fashion with an immense score of 15-0 in only four innings. The Canes led the game all the way through after a quiet first inning and lifted it back up with 11 runs in the second and four in the third. They were wrapping it up with ten total hits and eight players with one RBI. Players who took charge were Anthony Almaraz going 2-2 with two extra-base hits and two runs scored; Brock White, also finished 2-2 on a triple and two runs scored; and Kingston Sinner, who went 1-2 with a double and one run scored. Showing off on the mound, Miles Swan pitched two innings with zero runs on the board on no hits and one strikeout as he pitched around a 78-80 mph range, switching primarily between his fastball and curveball. With a dominating performance, the Canes move forward to battle against the Huskies 14U on Saturday. 

The Swarm Red Elite National 2028 ended victorious over the Paladin Baseball Club with a score of 15-0 in six innings of gameplay. The Swarm came out swinging with nine runs in the first inning, and the other six scored within the third and fifth innings. They ended the game with nine total hits and eight players with an RBI. The top hitters were Noah Casale, going 1-2 with a triple and two runs scored, Ashton Mitchell going 1-2 with a double and three runs scored, Cruz Chavez who went 2-2 with two runs scored while Jacob Colao ended 2-4 with two runs scored. Colao and Chavez came to pitch and showed off their arms with impressive two innings of work from both. Colao’s line consists of one hit, run, and walk along with striking out four batters. Chavez stepped off with no hits, runs, or walks and struck out six of his own. With such a solid start to the tournament, the Swarm will hope to continue this impressive performance as they enter game two tomorrow. 

MMW Arizona 2028 Black came out as winners with the assistance of right-handed pitcher and Arizona native Hunter Chambers with his no-hitter. Chambers helped his team to an 8-0 victory after shutting down the CBA Titans in five innings with no walks and striking out three batters. He threw fastballs consistently in the 69-71 mph range along with his 58-mph curveball. With this performance, it’s unsurprising that Perfect Games has him on his follow list in Arizona. Supporting their pitcher, the bats finished with nine hits. Landon Swinehart went 2-3 with one run scored, Mikey Stortz went 2-2 with one run scored as well, and taking charge was Jaxon Clubb, who ended 1-2 with a triple and one run scored. Early tomorrow morning, they will go against the FS21 Stars in the second game of their tournament.

Canes West AZ beat the AZ Runners Scout Team after six innings for an ending score of 8-0 without a hit for the AZ Runner Scout Team to show for. The Canes did most of their work during the second inning, scoring four runs and the other four between the third and fifth, ending with five hits and five players with RBI. Starring in the batter’s box were Owen Gaida and Grady Openden. Owen Gaida went 1-3, and for Openden, he shined on both sides of the game, going 1-1 with one run scored and pitching three innings with zero hits or runs allowed whilestriking out four batters. Maddox Wahlenmaier only pitched one inning to close out the game for the combined no-hitter and ended like Openden with no hits or runs but two punch-outs. Next up for this team is the Wow Factor NV 2027 tomorrow afternoon. 

The Nomadic 2027 Gold won game one in their tournament race with a blowout win of 15-0 against the Dallas Tigers El Paso team. With eight hits on the day, Nomadic started with four runs in the first and second innings and secured the game after scoring 11 runs in the fifth. With 15 runs comes a lot of star power in the batter's box; those players were Payton Holinka, Devin Dekavallas, Dane Jochumsen, and Parker Estfan. Holinka went 1-2 with two runs scored, along with Dekavallas, who also went 1-2 with a double and two runs scored, Jochumsen led the way going 2-3 with one double and two runs scored, and lastly, Estfan, who batted 1-2 with one run scored and two RBI. The most notable pitcher also happened to be Dekavallas, who threw four innings, giving up three hits, no runs, and six strikeouts and challenging the Tigers with his 74-79 mph range and his mix of fastballs and an upper-60s curveball. Nomadic 2027 Gold will next match up against the Wow Factor AZ Prospects during the afternoon.

During the start of the weekend, Hawaii Elite 2g National team won 11-0 over the Dirtbags Mitchell. This team came in with plenty of power, scoring four runs in the first, two in the second, and five in the fifth to end the game in six innings. Starting at the plate, the bats had seven hits and players with multiple RBI. The players to watch were Nicholas Nashiwa, Chase Sutherland, Alaka'i Kiakona, Allin Yap, and Caynen Kagami. Nashiwa led his team offensively, scoring 2-2 with one double and two runs scored, Sutherland went 2-3, and Kiakona went 1-3 with two runs scored. Yap pitched three innings, giving up two hits and struck out six batters, and Kagami, in two, gave up one hit and had two strikeouts. Looking for another big win in their game two, Hawaii Elite will go head-to-head against the Wow Factor West 17U squad, who also took a win in their first game.
