2004 South Top Prospect Showcase
Cody Duplantis is a 2005 from Montgomery, TX. Duplantis is a slender bodied young middle infielder with some good physical projection to him. He impressed us defensively across the board. He has smooth, easy defensive actions with good balance. Duplantis’ arm strength isn’t quite MLB caliber, but he gets rid of the ball very quickly to compensate. He also showed good range on a number of plays, including a diving catch of a line drive up the middle that was one of the defensive highlights of the showcase. With the bat, Duplantis hits out of a slightly open stance with a short, contact oriented swing. Despite his lack of extension, Duplantis flashed some good bat speed and quickness and got the bat head out well on some high 80’s heat. He looks like a hitter who is going to stay within his limitations until he can add some more upper body strength. Duplantis also took a quick turn on the mound, topping out at 81 mph with a 67 mph curveball. Cody is an excellent student.
