Tennessee 13, Auburn 4

In what was a less than stellar night for pitchers, Tennessee and Auburn took the field at Samford Stadium showcasing two of the top college bats for this June’s MLB Draft. Tennessee third baseman Nick Senzel has generated some top five overall buzz after following up an impressive summer in the Cape Cod League with a strong spring. Auburn outfielder Anfernee Grier has also generated first round hype following a strong summer with Team USA and a big spring of his own.

The game jumped out to an early start with Tennessee running up a four spot in the top of the first. Senzel made his way to the plate third in the inning and reached base on a sharply hit groundball to shortstop. Senzel possess plus bat speed at the plate with a subtle shift into the ball and small leg lift timing mechanism.

He has big raw strength as he showed off in batting practice, peppering the left field wall with several line drives. Senzel has four home runs this year, but it’s easy to project above average pop at the next level. Senzel stands at an athletically listed 6-foot-1, 205-pounds with long arms and a broad chest that could handle additional strength, but at this point would compromise some athleticism.
