2013 Top Prospects

Dominic Smith  1B - 2013 - Los Angeles, CA
Southern California

Smith is one of the best hitters in the 2013 class and has natural hitting tools, especially in his hands and his eyes, that are impossible to teach. He might be one of the best defensive first basemen we've ever seen at this level, too.

Ethan Cohen  OF - 2013 - Thousand Oaks, CA
Michigan

Cohen has pro level tools across the board, including 6.8 speed, a 92 mph throwing arm from the outfield and lots of bat speed from the left side of the plate. He's only 5-11/170 but plays bigger and will get stronger.

Tim Willittes  RHP - 2013 - Scottsdale, AZ
Cornell

Willittes stood out as the best pitching prospect at the showcase, with his 86-88 mph fastball arguably his 3rd best pitch behind a hard biting curveball and very deceptive change up. He'll probably remember his huge blast over the left field scoreboard before his pitching performance, though.

Jacob Weston  OF - 2013 - Corona, CA
Cornell

Weston has a very interesting combination of sub 7.0 speed and plus physical strength. The ball really comes off the barrel of his bat hard and he has polished present hitting tools.

Max Schuman  C - 2013 - Scottsdale, AZ
Utah

Schuman is an extra strong 6-0/195 and his strength shows in his power from the left side. The ball comes off his bat very hard and his triple on Saturday carried like it had come off a big leaguer's bat. He's relatively new to catching but has the athletic ability and arm strength to grow defensively.

Aldo Koutsoyanopulos  3B - 2013 - Mission Viejo, CA
Central Arizona CC

Koutsoyanopulos has to be introduced to Jarred Saltalamacchia at some point, for obvious reasons, but he has the physical tools and projection to reach that level of baseball someday. His bat speed and aggressiveness at the plate and on the bases gives him a high offensive ceiling.

Dylan Drachler  LHP - 2013 - Las Vegas, NV
Utah

Drachler is a very talented 2-way athlete with a likely future on the mound. He has an unusual and deceptive delivery, with a mid 80's fastball that is probably only his third best pitch behind an outstanding change up and sharp biting curveball.

Kevin Macedo  OF - 2013 - La Verne, CA
Uncommitted

The 6-1/170 is a very good natural athlete who has nice present tools and projects to get better in all areas. He ran a 6.89 and looks like he'll be able to stay in centerfield for a while defensively while his bat continue to develop.

Julian Harrison  2B - 2013 - Los Angeles, CA
Uncommitted

Harrison's 5-7/160 size doesn't cover up his very advanced hitting ability and he's one of the very few hitters at this age who is virtually identical in ability from both sides of the plate. He's also a 6.86 runner with clean and quick defensive actions at second base.

Tyler Huber  RHP - 2013 - Oklahoma City, OK
Uncommitted

Huber topped out at 86 mph and we're sure that he has thrown harder and will do so again in the future. Especially impressive was his ability to work between a curveball and a slider with good feel and separation between the two pitches.

Jose Gudino  C - 2013 - San Diego, CA
Uncommitted

Gudino is the right handed version of Ivan Chavarria (see below), a very strong hitter with a sound hitting approach and the ability to drive the ball out of the park. Gudino will have to work hard to become a college level catcher but the tools are there and the bat plays.

Ivan Chavarria  1B - 2013 - Gardena, CA
Uncommitted

Chavarria's big tool is his left handed bat. Not only is he strong and generates very good bat speed, he is a confident hitter who sees the ball and makes consistent hard contact.

Anthony Mizrahi  3B - 2013 - LaCanada, CA
Uncommitted

The 6-3/210 Mizrahi was yet another of the big and strong power hitters at this event and he showed a short swing with quick hands that could be opened up for even more power. He didn't pitch but topped out at 87 mph off the mound earlier this fall.

2014 Top Prospects

Scott Hurst  OF - 2014 - Glendora, CA
Cal State Fullerton

Hurst is so quick twitch and athletic that one of the ways he's likely to improve over the next few years is to slow the game down a bit. He shows outstanding bat speed at times and has much more present power than you'd think he'd have at 5-10/160. What's his best position is still to be determined but his tools play everywhere.

Denz'l Chapman  OF - 2014 - Los Angeles, CA
San Diego State

Chapman ran a 6.36 on what was thought to be a slow track for the 60. That's world class speed. The rest of his game, including his ability to switch-hit, is pretty solid as well. Don't be surprised if he doesn't become a dynamic national level prospect.

Jeffrey Oki  3B - 2014 - Los Angeles, CA
Uncommitted

Oki will likely end up at third base in the future as he fills out his 6-2/175 frame, but his bat should be plenty good enough to carry him there. He has present bat speed and nice loose separation out front that promises lots of power as he gets stronger.

Ryan Day  SS - 2014 - Phelan, CA
Duke

Day is a very interesting athlete who runs very well (6.79), has nice developing arm strength and looks to have the actions to stay at shortstop at the next level.

Mike Palos  C - 2014 - Monterey Park, CA
Uncommitted

Palos is a polished defensive catcher for his age, with very quick feet shifting behind the plate and athletic balance in all his actions. He still has some work to do mechanically with his swing but showed the ability and strength to drive the ball at times.

Austin Garcia  1B - 2014 - Henderson, NV
Uncommitted

Garcia's 6-5/225 build garners immediate attention for a 15 year old. His skills are still early in the developmental stage but he's very athletic (7.2 runner) with a nice loose swing and the beginnings of some real bat speed.

Alan Trejo  SS - 2014 - Downey, CA
San Diego State

Trejo has a loose, projectable 6-0/165 build and an equally loose arm that generated a consistent 80-82 mph fastball that will keep improving. His out pitch was a unique "power" knuckleball in the low 70's that was a nasty pitch at times

Hayden Rappoport  OF - 2014 - West Hills, CA
Dartmouth

Rappoport shows lots of projection in his right handed swing and the ball comes off the barrel hard when he squares up. He has the athleticism to get off first base and into the outfield in the future as well.

2015 Top Prospects

Justin Bardwell  C - 2015 - Chino Hills, CA
Fordham

Bardwell has some growing to do physically but he has very good actions and athleticism for his age both defensively behind the plate and swinging the bat from the right side.

William Aguilar  MIF - 2015 - Fountain Valley, CA
Long Beach State

Aguilar threw 83 mph with his fastball, which is noteworthy velocity for a young freshman. That's likely to keep improving along with the rest of his game.

Anthony Lepre  C - 2015 - Agua Dulce, CA
UC Riverside/College of the Canyons

Lepre has natural hitting tools and already squares up the ball hard and drives it with wood.

Steven Nuno  LHP - 2015 - South Gate, CA
Uncommitted

Nuno is a live bodied 14 year old athlete who got up to 78 mph on his fastball with the ability to put some hard spin on his curveball and some present pitchability.
