Gold vs Maroon Game Highlights

4/23/2016

Spencer Van Scoyoc (2016 - Cedar Rapids, IA) had a dominant performance striking out blank in 4 innings.  He showed good command of his fastball and located it to both sides of the plate.  His curveball was good as usual with bite and depth to it.  He located that pitch very well and was in complete control throughout his performance.

Keaton Winn (2016 - Ollie, IA) pitched well at 88-92 MPH with his fastball with a short quick arm action.  He threw his change up at 83 MPH and his curveball at 76 MPH.  Winn gets some depth on his curve ball and some sink on his change up.

Ben Probst (2017 - Urbandale, IA) pitched well at 86-88 MPH topping out out 89 MPH.  He showed some feel for his curveball and change up.  Probst threw a ton of strikes and there's more velocity to come.

Luke Patzner (2018 - Urbandale, IA) pitched at 85-87 MPH touching 88 MPH with his fastball.  He hides the ball well and throws it easy.  There's more velocity in there and he projects well.  He threw a curveball at 72 MPH that showed some promise.

Nic McCay (2018 - Carlisle, IA) pitched at 80-84 MPH with a quick arm.  He showed some bite on his curveball and some sink on his fastball.

Bryce Simon (2017 - Cascade, IA) made an impressive full extension catch on a line drive to center field.  He showed good speed and instincts in the outfield.

Ramon Vega Jr (2016 - Buffalo, MN) swung the bat well going 2-3 with a double and a run.  He starts with a coiled set up and looks to pull the ball.

Ethan Cummins (2016 - Mississauga, Ontario) made multiple good plays defensively and showed excellent defensive tools.  He made a few tough plays look really easy and smooth.

Batting Practice Highlights

4/23/2016

Ethan Cummins (2016 SS, Mississauga, ON) is a young Canadian who has a slender build at 6-1/175 but has some hidden strength and a whippy barrel through the zone.  He attacks the ball aggressively and had one of the few home runs of the batting practice.

Griffin Doersching (2017 1B, Greendale, WI) is 6-4/250 and very strong.  He has a long and loose swing with some uppercut plane to it and is looking to hit the ball hard and drive it hard on every swing.  He's going to hit a ton of bombs before he's done playing.

Patrick Sisk (2017 3B, Fox Point, WI) has some of the same power that his fellow Wisconsin native Doersching has.  He could benefit by letting the ball travel more and hitting deeper in the zone but has big bat speed and power.

Kyle Crowl (2016 MIF, Council Bluffs, IA) has been one of the best players in Iowa for a couple of years and will likely play a large role at his home state University of Iowa  Hawkeyes over the next three to four years.

Ben Norman (2016 OF, Des Moines, IA) took a nice round, showing plenty of right centerfield juice.  He's a very projectable athlete who will be joining Crowl at Iowa.

Spencer Van Scoyoc (2016 LHP, Cedar Rapids, IA) reminded everyone of why he is a high level two-way prospect and just not a pitcher with one of the best rounds of BP we've ever seen him take.

Brayden Frazier (2018 SS, Cedar Rapids, IA) is only a sophomore but should be one of the top hitters in Iowa over the next few years.  He has a short and strong swing and impacts the ball hard.

Josue Sanchez (2017 C, Bayamon, PR) is a Puerto Rican native who goes to school in Florida but came all the way up to Cedar Rapids to play.  He has a short and quick right handed swing that will hit for a high average.

Zach Nogalski (2017 OF, Milwaukee, WI) has a nice 6-2/185 build with a promising combination of looseness and developing strength.  He showed quick wrists and squared the ball with a short and aggressive swing.

Connor Kimple (2016 OF, Whitefish Bay, WI) is an outstanding athlete with some of the best raw bat speed in the Upper Midwest.  When he learns how to turn on the ball, watch out.

John Swanda (2017 SS, Des Moines, IA) looks bigger than his listed 6-2/185 but is a smooth and graceful athlete who is going to keep getting better and better.  He already has very good bat speed.

Tyler Roeder (2016 SS, Cedar Rapids, IA) works as hard as any player in the country on his swing it seems like.  It shows with how much he have improved over the past three years and how hard and consistently he hits the ball as a senior.

Blake Elam (2017 MIF, Council Bluffs, IA) has a very nice hitting rhythm and times up the ball very well with a loose and extended swing.  He hit everything square and was aggressive in attacking the ball.

Thomas Larson (2017 OF, Joliet, IL) attacks the ball as aggressively as a hitter can but is athletic enough to maintain his balance and barrel control.  The result is lots of hard pull side contact and plenty of power.

Lyle Fini (2017 C, West Des Mones, IA) is listed at 6-0/215 but lots of that is lean and very solid muscle mass.  He uses that strength to create very good bat speed and the ball really comes off the barrel hard when he's timed up.

Max Meyer (2017 SS, Woodbury, MN) has a smooth athletic swing and is a middle infielder who projects very well physically.  Follow him closely.

Brett McCleary (2017 C, Iowa City, IA) is another hitter with a long and loose swing and he has the balance and easy shift into contact to use it.  He's going to hit some long home runs in his last two years of high school and beyond.

Travis Reyhons (2018 SS, Iowa City, IA) has some very nice bat speed for a young sophomore with a 6-1/165 frame.  He tends to dip under the ball at times but a few adjustments and another couple of years of physical maturity could make him one of the best hitters in Iowa.
