Perfect Game Softball Winter Warm Up

BURLINGTON, IOWA- 23 teams across two age divisions converged onto Fun City Turf last weekend to compete to be the Winter Warm Up champions. In the 16U division, the Wisconsin Stingrays emerged victorious in dominating fashion, defeating the GTS 16U Elite-Gonzalez 7-0. On the weekend, several athletes stepped up big for their teams and below we highlight some of the top performers of the tournament.
16U Division
Avery Nelson (2029, Altoona, IA) of the Iowa Aries 16U Ce Fire Red was absolutely on fire during the tournament. Her numbers were astounding as she showed great consistency and versatility at the plate. She finished the weekend batting a staggering .909, tallying ten hits. This right-handed hitter packs a punch and was driving the ball opposite field all weekend. She did a great job allowing the ball to travel and provided some solid pop with her barrel. She finished with three doubles and a triple and drove in six runs for her Aries team.
Sophia Abundiz (2028, Plover, WI) of the Wisconsin Stingrays was a phenomenal offensive producer for her team and a huge part of their championship run. She finished the weekend with an impressive .700 batting average. She came in clutch for her team, driving in nine runs and scoring six times. This right-handed hitter packs a punch with next-level bat speed and the ability to drive the ball to all fields with power. She blasted four home runs and two doubles, proving she was one of the strongest hitters in the tournament.
Callie Diekhus (2028, Plover, WI) of the Wisconsin Stingrays was a consistent and versatile force for her team. This strongly built right-handed hitter has a solid swing and makes consistent contact. She finished the weekend batting .500, with two doubles and a homerun. Her hands take a great angle to the ball and she does a great job staying behind the pitch. She showed the ability to turn hard and fast on inside pitches while taking the outside pitch up the middle and opposite field. Her barrel awareness is next level, and she was a huge factor in her team’s championship run.
Avarie Tritt (2027, Oshkosh, WI) of the Wisconsin Rebels 16U was lights out with her bat last weekend. This strong right-handed hitter proved to be consistent and diverse in her offensive output. She finished the weekend batting an insane .900 with nine hits, tallying two doubles and a homerun. She drove in five runs for her team and scored four times. She did a great job showing the ability to turn on the inside pitch, while still being able to drive the ball up the middle. She showed great strike zone awareness and barrel control.
Lauren Hansen (2028, Waunakee, WI) of the Wisconsin Stingrays proved to be a top offensive performer during the tournament. She finished the weekend batting .750 with six hits, all singles. She showed the ability to sit on the off-speed, hit the ball opposite field, and have solid pitch selection. She did a great job working counts and showing great scrappiness in her at-bats. She drove in three runs for her team and scored three times as well.
Marissa Santori (2029, Waterford, WI) of the Wisconsin Stingrays had a great weekend at the plate for her team. She proved to have great consistency, hitting .600 and tallying six hits. She drove two doubles and scored four times for her team. This right-handed hitter starts with her hands high and does a great job taking a strong angle to the ball. She uses her back side well during her swing and generates a good amount of barrel whip.
Tenleigh Bockhop (2028, Mineral Point, WI) of the Wisconsin Stingrays had a truly dominating weekend on the mound last weekend. She ended up being one of the strongest two-way players, batting a strong .364 and throwing 10 innings for her team. This right-handed pitcher has a smooth motion with a loose and violent whip. Her curve, backdoor curve, and riseball combo proved to be truly effective, leading her to 16 strikeouts. She finished her weekend with a 0.70 ERA and only gave up four hits.
Lailah Evans (2030, Shiloh, IL) of the Black Widows 2028 was a truly dominant force on the mound and with her bat last weekend. This right-handed pitcher threw 10 innings for her team, finishing with an impressive 0.00 ERA and batting .429 at the plate. She was the true definition of a two-way player. In the box, Lailah drove a double, had two RBI’s and a stolen base for her team. She showed a great ability to drive the ball to all fields. In the circle is really where she shined, striking out an impressive 15 batters in her 10 innings of work. She is explosive off the mound, finishing with a nice snap. She has a late breaking curve ball that was super effective.

Mya Osore (2028, Pleasant Hill, IA) of the Iowa Aries 16U Ce Fire Red finished her weekend batting .556 and scoring six times. She drove a double and stole three bases for her team.
Maia Waddell (2028, Olathe, KS) of the KC Rebels 16 Regional Lickel had a strong showing on the weekend. She batted .625, tallying five hits, an RBI, and scored five times for her team.
Payton Harris (2028, Mediapolis, IA) of the Black Dragons finished her strong weekend batting .571. She drove in four runs for her team, tallying an impressive three home runs and walked two times.
Cece Smith (2028, Madison, WI) of the GTS 16U Elite-Gonzalez is a right-handed pitcher who had a great weekend in the circle. She threw 9.2 innings and tallied 15 strikeouts. She finished her weekend with a 2.20 ERA.
Ashlyn Petrick (2028, Waunakee, WI) of the Wisconsin Stingrays is a right-handed pitcher who was dominant on the mound over the weekend. She threw 10 innings for her team, striking out 14 and finishing with an impressive 0.70 ERA.
