BRYAN, TX- It was a perfect weekend in Bryan, Texas to kick off the fall season. Teams got the opportunity to play a lot of games and get a gauge on their rosters. Some great softball was played and at the end of a long weekend, Athletics Mercado Futures Zito 14U took home the championship after a dominating 7-0-1 performance in their eight games. Below we highlight some of the impressive athletes that caught our scout’s eye.
Kinley Lara (2029, Huntsville, TX) of the Athletics Mercado Futures Zito 14U was almost unhittable this past weekend. She was one of the most dominant pitchers on the weekend putting up incredible numbers. She is a strong right-handed pitcher who does a great job putting herself into good counts and has a high strikeout to innings pitched ratio. She has great break on her curve and drop and her riseball was getting hitters to chase all weekend, resulting in 32 strikeouts in her 19.2 innings pitched. Her screwball was effective, running slightly up and in on righties and overall her consistency in hitting her spots and her tight spin on her pitches led to a championship caliber weekend. Opposing hitters could only muster a .108 batting average. She also contributed on the other side of the ball, belting two singles, two doubles, and driving in six runs for her team. She finished the weekend with a leading 0.712 ERA, which demonstrated just how dominant she was.
Melanie Chen (2026, Houston,TX) of the Hustle National Garcia 18U was phenomenal on the weekend. This right-handed hitter who generates incredible bat speed was a consistent force at the plate. She showed the ability to let the ball travel, driving the ball hard to all fields. She finished the weekend leading the team with a .667 batting average and coming in clutch with nine RBI’s. She showed great power at the plate, belting five doubles. She also impressed with heads up baserunning.
Julianna Adams (2027, Tomball, TX) of the Cy Fair Sting 18U was one of the most impressive athletes on the field last weekend. This athletic shortstop and hitter was on full display on both sides of the ball. Defensively, this elite middle infielder carries confidence and steadiness in the infield. She gets a great first step towards all directions, can throw the ball on the run with authority, throw from any arm slot, and has a high softball IQ. She knows when to attack the ball hard based on the speed of the ball and takes great angles on balls over her head. Offensively she led her strong offensive team in hitting on the weekend. She has an athletic stance and smooth swing and proved she can drive the ball to all fields. She finished the weekend batting .636 with a .909 slugging. She showcased both power and speed at the plate, belting five singles, a double, a triple, and stealing three bases. She plays and behaves like an elite player who does all the little things right.
Eve Puzon (2028, Bellaire, TX) of the Hustle National Garcia 18U was impressive on both sides of the ball last weekend. This strong 3B and right-handed hitter provided consistency at the plate and steadfastness on defense. Defensively, she fielded her position well, also demonstrating the ability to attack balls in front, make quick transfers, and to stay down on well hit balls. Offensively, she showed incredible power at the plate, one-hopping a super deep fence that would have been out in most ballparks. She showed fast hands and the ability to turn on the inside pitch with authority. She finished the weekend batting an impressive .526 with a 1.268 slugging percentage. She got eight singles, a double, and a triple and came through in the clutch for her team with six RBI’s.
Addison Sanchez (2028, Bryan, TX) of the Athletics Mercado Futures Zito 14U was a consistent force at the plate this weekend for her squad. This right-handed hitter has an athletic stance and an explosive swing. She had competitive at-bats, working counts and even drawing three walks on the weekend. She finished the weekend with a .467BA and racked up four singles, two doubles, and a triple. She came through in tough situations, driving in five runs. She put her athleticism on display, stealing four bases. She is an athletic kid who really shined bright last weekend.
Faith Puzon (2027, Bellaire, TX) of the Hustle National Garcia 18U was one of the most exciting spark plugs to compete this weekend. In the leadoff spot, this right-handed hitter did a great job of starting innings and getting things cooking for her offense. She showed great power to the opposite field, belting multiple deep basehits over the right fielder’s head. She starts in an athletic stance and fires against a great front side resistance. She had competitive at bats and battled through counts. She has a great ability to let the ball travel and has incredible barrel awareness.
Maycee Myers (2029, Anderson, TX) of the Athletics Mercado Futures Zito 14U was the top hitter for her championship team last weekend. She was a truly impactful player on both sides of the ball, holding it down in center field. Defensively, she showed great field awareness and was so effective at attacking any balls put in play. She showed a strong throwing arm, good range, and was just a consistent force in the outfield. Offensively, this leadoff hitter has an athletic stance and swing. She did a great job letting the ball travel, even against slower pitcher and driving the ball to all fields. She finished the weekend batting .579 with eight singles and an impressive three triples. She truly showcased her speed, stealing six bases. She has pop off the barrel and the ability to beat out infield singles. She was one of the most impressive and versatile athletes to compete this past weekend.
Yanelli Contreras (2027, Pearland, TX) of the Hustle Premier 16U was a steady force behind the plate for her squad last weekend and was impressive in the batter’s box as well. We have seen incredible growth in this athlete since first laying eyes on her early in the summer. Behind the plate she has a strong presence and good game awareness. Her framing has improved dramatically and she was effective at getting borderline pitches called her way. She is a strong communicator and is showing more maturity behind the plate. Offensively, she has a strong stance with some solid power potential. She finished the weekend with a .385 batting average and showed some pop, belting two doubles. She came in clutch, driving in three runs for her squad.
Madison Boswell (2026, Spring, TX) of the Cy Fair Sting 18U had a great weekend for her team, playing a steady first base, on the mound, and in the batter’s box. This strong left-handed player finished the weekend batting an impress .625 racking up five hits in eight at-bats. She showed her patience at the plate, drawing four walks. She played a solid first base and got two wins for her team on the mound.
Rylee Hanson (2027, Huntsville, TX) of the Cy Fair Sting 18U was a lights out contributor to her team over the weekend. She led the team in RBI’s with nine and finished the weekend batting .500. Hanson is a tall and strong right-handed hitter and player and is a steady force in the lineup. Rylee also holds it down behind the plate, using a strong glove for framing and showing good mobility and hustle.
Riley Holik (2029, Damon, TX) of the Hustle Premier 16U was a standout player last weekend. She is small, but athletic second baseman who was steady and consistent for her team on defense. She takes great angles on balls and covers ground well with a quick first step. She has high softball IQ and is fun to watch. Offensively, this right-handed hitter was the definition of consistency for her team. She has great barrel awareness and was effective at driving the ball where it was pitched. She finished the weekend with a .600 batting average and had an impressive 1.100 slugging percentage. She belted two doubles and a homerun for her team and drove in four RBI’s.
Marley Alonzo (2028, Conroe, TX) of the AF 16U HTX Academy Carlson was impressive last weekend. Our scout saw her drive a monster shot to the left-center gap. She has a strong front side resistance and she does a great job of firing her back side with violence. She has great balance throughout her swing and has next level barrel awareness. She has a very athletic stance and swing and provides some potent power in the lineup.
Cylee Thomas (2028, College Station, TX) of the AF Brazos Valley Gold 16U was impressive on both sides of the ball this past weekend. This strongly built right-handed pitcher and hitter contributed in many ways to her squad. We saw her on the mound throwing a tight-spinning curveball and popping the glove. At third base she held it down with solid glove work and a strong overhand throw. She has made great improvements in her footwork on the corner and we saw that in play during the weekend. Offensively, she is a dangerous hitter with big power potential. She creates fantastic barrel whip and when she connects her barrel to the ball, it goes hard and far.
