Griffon Indoor Scout Notes

Photo: Perfect Game
This Sunday, the Super Bowl was not the only game in town. Ten teams from across the Midwest competed at Griffon Indoor Stadium on the campus of Missouri Western State University. The North Iowa Heat had a perfect record on the day, going 4-0. Kynnedy Guthrie, Paityn Ford and Elizabeth Hamand all had a home run on the day.

Jerzey Wiechman (2025, Lincoln, Neb.) is a right-handed pitcher who showed off dual-threat potential, getting things done for her team both at the plate and in the circle. Using a classic swing plane and power through contact, Jerzey explodes through the ball, collecting five hits and driving in eight runs. On the other side of the ball, she tallied five strikeouts through two innings pitched.

Libby Trewin (2025, Sheffield, Iowa), playing for North Iowa Heat, again showed why she is one of the best players in her class. She has an overwhelming mix of pitches, including a 58 mph fastball, a two-plane changeup, and a late-moving curveball that aided Libby in collecting eight strikeouts and two wins through six innings of work. Offensively, Libby continued her onslaught, tallying five hits and driving in two runs, and scoring four more.

The Oklahoma Blaze 16u Gold squad is loaded with talented players. One such player was Kynnedy Guthrie (2025, Altus, Okla.). With lots to like about her on both sides of the ball, Kynnedy used a deceptive and at times formidable combination of pitches that kept hitters guessing all day long. The drop-curve was Kynnedy’s go-to strikeout pitch, collecting 11 strikeouts through seven innings. Her changeup was deceptive and dropped off the table as it crossed the plate. At the dish, Kynnedy helped her own cause, driving in five runs, scoring five runs and stealing two bases. There is rising potential for this future star.

Kynnedy’s Oklahoma Blaze teammate Braisley Wilson (2025, Elgin, Okla.) has a feel for the barrel not often seen at this age. She used an on-time and balanced approach to hunt down her pitch, collecting five hits, scoring five runs and driving in seven more. Colleges will not need to worry about developing the hit tool with Braisley, because she already has that skill.
