2013 West Coast Top Prospect Showcase

Royal vs Red Highlights >>
The hardest hit ball of the game came off the bat of 2014 OF Cheynne Giles (San Diego, CA) who blasted a line drive back up the middle that registered at 92 mph off the bat. 2014 1B/LHP Eric del Prado (El Segundo, CA) had the most consistent hard hit balls, going 3-for-3 with a double and two runs, with every hit coming on a well struck ball.

2014 RHP/1B Tom Leonardini (Aptos, CA) struck out four in his four innings of work, allowing just one unearned run, sitting 84-86 with his fastball, and showing a couple of solid offspeed offerings in a 70 mph curveball and 78 mph changeup.

2014 RHP/1B Kaden Verdin (Atwater, CA) is well coordinated for a 6-foot-8 high school pitcher, and he showed a lot of promise on the mound, topping out at 83 and doing a good job of staying around the strike zone in his three innings of work. Verdin also went 1-for-2 with an RBI single and a lineout to center.

2014 1B/RHP Nick Schumacher (Folsom, CA) had a good day, going 2-for-3 with a stolen base and a run scored at the plate, while also allowing just one hit over two scoreless innings of work on the mound.

2014 C/IF Lucas Halstead (Alamo, CA) went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and a stolen base, finishing the showcase going 3-for-6 over the two Royal games. 2014 IF Charles Steele (Woodland Hills, CA) went 2-for-4 today to finish 4-for-7.

2014 RHP Cam Auferheide (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) threw three shutout innings, racking up five strikeouts and allowing just two hits, sitting 81-84 and backing his fastball with a 74 mph slurvy breaking ball and a 78 mph changeup. 2014 3B/RHP Jon Buckley (Chino, CA) alo topped out at 84, throwing two scoreless innings of his own, striking out two of the eight batters he faced and allowed just one hit.
Teal vs Gold Highlights >>
2014 RHP Aaron Pinto (West Covina, CA, St. Paul HS) started for the Gold team and impressed as he struck out 4 batters pitching 82-86 mph and showing good potential with 2 offspeed offerings.

2014 RHP Kyle Wade (Chino Hills, CA HS) was dominant for the Gold team tossing 3 scoreless innings and striking out 5 batters. His fastball was also clocked at 82-86 mph.

2015 Ross Dodds (Clovis, CA, Buchanan HS) also got on the bump for the Gold team and pitched 84-86 mph in a perfect innings for the Gold Team.

Ocatavio Lara Jr. (Bellflower, CA, Richard Gahr) showed good bat speed and had a double in the game.

Luke Hussung (Studio City, CA, Laurel Springs College Prep) used his 6.74 speed well as he scored 2 runs and reached base twice with one single.

2014 RHP Darren McCaughan (Downey, CA, Los Alamitos HS) pitched very well for the Teal team as he struck out 6 in 4 scoreless innings. His fastball was 81-84 mph and he spotted all of his pitches well.

Taiki Hatanaka (Noda, Chiba, Japan, Ryutsukeizai) impressed at the plate drilling an opposite field HR for the Teal team.

Ryan Eto (San Diego, CA, Westview) also doubled for the Teal team.
Batting Practice Highlights >>
Gold SS Ross Dodds (Buchanan HS, Clovis, CA) took an outstanding BP, driving the ball consistently to the pull side with a fast right handed swing.  The ball really jumps well off his bat.  He may have to tone down the effort a bit in games but the bat speed is really there.

Gold 1B Braxton Ipson (Dixie HS, St. George, UT) has a long and loose left handed swing with lots of present strength and a low effort approach.  The ball came off the barrel well and he blasted a pair of home runs.

Gold 2B Austin Bernard (Valley Center (CA) HS) moves in very well to contact, although his lead foot is down late occasionally.  He takes an aggressive swing with bat speed and showed some power when his timing worked.

Gold SS Cory King (Dana Hills HS, Laguna Niguel, CA) has a loose and projectable 6-3/175 build and nice current bat speed driven by very quick hands.  He gets the ball in the air and projects more power in the future with added strength.

Red SS Justin Wylie (Hamilton HS, Chandler, AZ) has a short right handed swing with bat speed....he really uses his hands well to hit.  He squared the ball up consistently and showed some power as well.

Red OF Cheynne Giles (Westview HS, San Diego, CA) has a loose, projectable build and a loose right handed swing.  He swings hard and creates bat speed with more to come.

Red IF Jeff Antenucci (Monte Vista HS, Danville, CA) has a pull and lift left handed swing and gets the ball in the air with back spin and it travels.  He hit a pair of BP home runs.

Royal C Lucas Halstead is probably the strongest player at the showcase and it shows in his right handed swing.  He overpowers the ball with an aggressive swing and hit balls out to all fields....left, center and right.  He has a big stride into contact and corresponding weight shift that creates length but if he can make adjustments in games to good pitching, he has huge power potential.

Royal OF Corbin Lilledahl has a very loose and projectable 6-3/160 build but has some wiry strength and a whippy left handed swing.  He should keep improving as he gets stronger.

Teal 3B Travis McFarland (Norco HS, Corona, CA) is some kind of strong at 6-4/210+ and can drive the ball hard.

Royal vs Teal Highlights >>
2014 RHP/CIF Chase Beal (Queen Creek, AZ) sat 81-86 for three innings, striking out four of the 10 batters he faced and flashed good upside on both of his offspeed pitches: a curveball up to 76 and a changeup up to 80 mph.

2014 LHP Max Green (Rolling Hills, CA) showed a lot of upside on the mound, sitting 80-84 with good arm side tail on his fastball, a deep sweeping curveball up to 68 mph and an advanced changeup up to 72 mph. Green projects well physically and shows good pitchability from the left side and is a player to keep an eye on going forward.

2014 MIF Patrick Cromwell (Costa Mesa, CA) had the hardest hit ball of the game with an opposite field drive down the left field line that plated a pair before he was thrown out at third on a bang-bang play thanks to a strong relay by the Teal team. Cromwell also hit the ball hard his second trip to the plate, but flew out to center.

2014 OF Corbin Lilledahl (Los Banos, CA) impressed with a pair of singles, a stolen base and a run scored. He showed the ability to drive the ball the opposite way with a clean stroke into left field on a fastball away in the ninth inning after showing off his strength to the pullside in BP.

2014 MIF Charles Steele (Woodland Hills, CA) went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, a run, two RBIs and a flyout to center. He did a good job of extending through contact, causing the ball to carry well off his bat.

2014 SS/RHP Christian Funk (Fresno, CA) went 1-for-2 at the plate and mowed down four of the six hitters he faced in two perfect innings of work on the mound, sitting 83-87 with his fastball and supplementing it with a curveball up to 67 and a changeup at 70 mph.

2014 C/IF Lucas Halstead (Alamo, CA) stands out not only for his physically imposing 6-foot-3 226 pound frame, but also for his plus raw bat speed and arm strength. He went 1-for-2 with a stolen base in Saturday's game.

2014 3B Travis McFarland (Corona, CA) showed good strength at contact, making very hard contact in each of his two at-bats, singling his first trip before reaching on an error on a ball that was too hot for the defense to handle in his second. He would also steal a base.

Gold vs Red Highlights >>
2014 RHP Octavio Lara Jr. (Bellflower, CA, Richard Gahr HS) impressed for the Gold team. He ran his fastball up to 88 mph and showed a quality curve ball to go with it. He also had a double in the game.

2015 Ross Dodds (Clovis, CA, Buchanan HS) continues to really impress at the West Coast top as he showed easy bat speed and went 2-2 in the game.

2014 Rayson Romero (Mililani, HI, Saint Louis School) showed well as he is a high energy player and drilled a double in the game.

2014 RHP Sam Carter (Danville, CA, Monte Vista HS) dealt for the Red team as the RHP tossed 4 scoreless innings with 7 strikeouts. His fastball was up to 86 mph this outing and he showed good pitchability.

2014 Justin Wylie (Chandler, AZ, Hamilton HS) has impressed with the bat and showed easy pop as he squared the ball up in games.

2014 Cheynne Giles (San Diego, CA, Westview HS) continues to impress as he has shown a very nice swing and went 2-2 with two doubles in the game.

2014 Nik Miroshnichenko (Foothill Ranch, CA, Trabuco Hills HS) also doubled for the Red team in this game.
