Florida Top Batting Practice Blog

8/15/2015

Juan Diego Molina Estrella () showed solid strength from his 5-foot-7, 148 pound frame. He hits from a wide base and displayed a good ability to utilize the entire field, spraying line drives from gap to gap throughout his round.

Luis Valbuena (2016 OF, Miami, FL) had one of the stronger rounds of outfield drills in defensive workouts, and he also stood out in batting practice. Valbuena has strength in his wrists, forearms, and owns quick hands, all of which help him to generate good bat speed and whip the barrel through the zone with authority. He showed impressive developing power to his pullside.

Axel Salgado (2016 C, Delray Beach, FL) displayed solid strength from his 5-10, 180 pound frame. The switch hitter showed good contact ability from both sides of the plate, with a more fluid, consistent path conducive to extra base hits from the right side.

Kevin Acosta (2016 C, Daytona Beach, FL) starts with a lower hands set in his swing, but he showed the ability to drive the ball consistently, creating loft at contact and strength off of the barrel with good carry to his pullside.

Sean Reilly (2016 OF, Naples, FL) has an impressive 6-foot-4, 205 pound frame and he displayed solid strength and bat speed with a pullside approach from the left side.

Joey Hennessey (2016 RHP, Coconut Creek, FL) is another left handed hitter on the Cardinal roster that had a good BP round. Hennessey displayed a leveraged swing and good bat speed that helped create some carry to his pullside.

Alex Vazquez (2016 C, Miami, FL) had a solid round from the leftside of the plate, but the switch hitter really turned heads when hitting from the right handed batter’s box. Vazquez showed solid balance, good bat speed, and an ability to get extended.

Moises Criollo (2016 3B, Doral, FL) had some of the best raw power of the day, showing an ability to loft the ball to either gaps. When he’s on time with his lower half. his loose, uphill swing creates some solid backspin.

George Fernandez (2016 C, Miami, FL) also displayed impressive raw power in his batting practice round. The 5-foot-11, 208 pound righthanded hitter uses a toe-tap timing mechanism to gather his lower half, and when he’s in sync he can really impact the baseball with authority, as he did in driving a homerun over the left field fence.

Nicholas Bermudez (2016 OF, Miami, FL) has good strength in his 5-foot-10, 195 pound frame. The Miami native lifts the ball in his swing, and displays some good carry to his pullside, while also flashing the ability to use the barrel to drive line drives to the opposite field.

Bryant Jacox Jr (2016 OF, Baskerville, VA) is one of the few non- Florida or Puerto Rico residents at this event. The lefthanded hitter had a very solid round of batting practice, using his strength, bat speed, and a line-drive swing plane to pepper right field with consistent loud contact.

Mason Dinesen (2016 SS, Naples, FL) has a long, lean 6-foot-2, 160 pound frame. The righthanded hitter displayed good hand quickness and nice feel for the barrel, using the middle and opposite parts of the field well throughout his round.

Michael Richey (2016 C, Cape Coral, FL) has good bat speed and solid strength. That combination, along with a level, line-drive plane allowed him to work the gaps consistently throughout his round.

Tanner Murphy (2016 OF, St. Johns, FL) is a University of North Florida commit, and after watching his batting practice it is easy to see why he was coveted by a Division I program. The 6-foot-3, 185 pound righty has a very good feel for using the barrel, and he hit nearly every single ball hard. Murphy displayed an ability to get extended and pull the ball and use the opposite field with authority when needed.
