Maroon vs. Black Highlights
8/25/2014 8:33:07 AM
RHP Cole Baker (2015, Grimes, IA) started for the Maroon team and threw very well for 4 innings, pitching consistently in the 87-89 mph range while striking out 5 hitters.  The Iowa commit commands his fastball well to the bottom of the zone and also showed a nice change up at times.

Fellow Iowa commit RHP Chris Comito (2015, Norwalk, IA) started for the Black team and threw 5 innings and settled down after a rough start to strike out 8 hitters while allowing only one run.  Comito didn't throw as hard as we've seen him at times, pitching in the 85-87 mph range, but his hard curveball was a big weapon that picked him up many of his strikeouts.

LHP Foster Anshutz (2015, Des Moines, IA) followed Comito with four innings of work.  The 6-foot-3, 190 pound southpaw threw plenty of strikes with his 82-84  mph fastball but his slider and change up were both quality pitches as well.

OF Troy Ouellette (2015, Robbinsdale, MN) had a nice game for Black, scoring a run after a single and a pair of stolen bases and hitting the ball hard all four trips to the plate.  Ouellette also stood out in centerfield for his jumps and range, while making a highlight real diving catch in shallow left centerfield.  3B Luke Herauf (2015, Dickinson, ND) had a similar game, hitting a double and a deep fly ball while playing strong defense at third base and showing a very quick release on throws.

Black catcher Jeffrey Kressler (2015, Chanhassen, MN) also stood out defensively for his hustle and blocking ability.  OF Alex Doud (2015, Waukesha, WI) had a double for Black and scored their other run while also making consistent hard contact with a slicing left handed swing.

OF Braden Kirkpatrick (2015, El Dorado, KS) provided the offensive highlight for Maroon, driving a triple to the left centerfield gap and then stealing home when the catcher threw down to first base after the next hitter struck out on a ball in the dirt.  1B Andrew Bandstra (2015, Des Moines, IA) had a pair of singles for Maroon.
