Bryant Roth is a 2007 1B/3B with a 6'3'', 220 lb. frame from Norco CA, who attends Notre Dame HS. Roth is an interesting prospect, particularly with the bat in his hands. Each time he stepped to the plate, there was a sense that if the pitcher made a mistake in Roth's zone, there was going to be a very hard hit ball. He has a physically mature body, so projection is not part of the equation. Offensively he starts with an open stance and clears his hips quite early. Roth is clearly strong and showed usable power to the pull side. His swing plane is pretty flat, but he can get some loft on the ball. He has good bat speed and swings with decent balance. Roth has good hands that work inside the ball. Plate coverage is an issue with that early front hip movement. If he can make adjustment there, then his power stroke should play to all fields and pretty regularly. Until then, he is a middle/middle-in hitter. Defensively he showed good hands and his feet are decent, making him capable of making the plays he needs to make. He is a solid student and possesses ability with the bat.
