Francisco Mateo is a 2018 OF/RHP with a 5-10 175 lb. frame from Carolina, PR who attends Montverde Academy. Medium broad shouldered build, has good present strength. 6.49 runner, shows his athleticism well in the outfield, makes accurate on line throws with carry, good momentum through the ball with a quick release. Right handed hitter, straight stance, has a late pause in his load that throws off his timing, level line drive swing plane, hits to all fields, has the strength hit with pre-swing adjustments. Two-way prospect. Works from the stretch with a 3/4's to mid 3/4's arm slot, will overstride at times and leave his arm behind but overall solid mechanics and good direction. Fastball topped out at 87 mph, has been up to 89 mph in the past. Has the ability to spin and shape the ball, best spin and bite on the harder slider shaped breaking ball. Will work in hesitations and quick pitches to impact a batter's timing. Versatile player with some tools.
