Will Van Duren is a 2019 RHP/OF/MIF with a 5-10 150 lb. frame from San Diego, CA who attends Scripps Ranch HS. Medium frame with long limbs and lean build. Projects for additional size with strength. Ran a 7.78 sixty yard dash. Primary right handed pitcher with a simple side step to high leg kick delivery. Shows a compact stride to the plate generating some downhill plane at release. Creates a long arm swing back at separation and releases from a three-quarters arm slot. Fastball had occasional running life in the low to mid 70's, topped at 76 mph. Curveball has 12/6 shape with tight spin and good depth when located at the bottom of the zone. Maintained arm speed well with curveball offering from the same plane as fastball. Mixed and matched both pitches well with the ability to pitch backwards when needed. Also workout out defensively from the outfield and infield. From the outfield shows smooth, repeatable footwork while working through transition. Releases from a lower arm slot that produces some accurate, uphill carry to the bag topping at 73 mph. From the infield shows clean, fundamental footwork while moving to the baseball. Clean glove to hand exchanges while working through transfer. Clean arm action that produced better on line carry to the bag topping at 70 mph. Right handed hitter with a square, balanced stance. Lower half launches to contact with rotational actions generating some shift. Loose, level path to contact with a line drive plane through extension. Consistently barreled up baseball throughout batting practice creating occasional rising line drives between the outfield gaps. Good student as well.
