William Da Costa is a 2016 SS with a 5-10 175 lb. frame from Toronto, ON who attends St. Jean de Brebeuf. Medium athletic frame with broad shoulders and a strong build. Left handed hitter with a wide lower half set and slightly open stance. Hands start from a wide position with a higher back elbow set. Launches hands on a short, direct path with an inside swing plane that produces some line drive carry to the opposite field gap. Ball jumps off barrel well when swing plane is on time and squared. Worked out defensively from the infield. Shows a wide lower half base with waist bend while fielding out front. Solid range to both sides with smooth footwork to backhand and developing glove actions. Deliberate actions while gathering with a compact arm action. Extended release and generates solid carry across the infield when staying on top of baseball, topped at 75 mph. Solid athletic actions defensively. Should continue to develop with fluidity.
