John Hunter Brown is a 2007 RHP/3B from Choctawhatchee HS in Ft.Walton Beach, FL, with a 5'11'', 148 lb. frame. He has a slender, wiry frame that has some strength and should get stronger. He showed good athletic actions defensively both coming off the mound and playing defense in the infield. Brown has an easy, balanced delivery with a loose, free arm action. His arm is quick and he repeats his delivery well, which enables him to pound the strike zone with all his pitches. Brown's fastball was up to 85 mph with good heavy life at the plate. He got the same type of sink and fade to his change up at 75 mph. Both are quality pitches for him right now and will enable him to get plenty of ground ball outs. Brown's breaking ball was a 69 mph curveball that flashed good spin but Brown was inconsistent on his release point and would get around it, which made it flatten out. When his curveball consistency improves, the whole package will be coming together for Brown. He's a nice young projectable pitcher with a bright future. He is also a good student.
