2007 Pitcher/Catcher Indoor Showcase
Nick Cozzi is a 2008 C/1B/3B with a 6'2'', 170 lb. frame from Chicago IL, who attends Marist HS. He has a tall, slender build that has good strength projection. Cozzi was one of the more impressive overall defensive catchers at the showcase. He showed very good quickness in his lateral shifting and was fluid and smooth in his receiving. His feet worked well and quickly. We also liked the leadership ability that Cozzi showed in working with the showcase pitchers. Cozzi threw 71 mph from behind the plate, a bit below average, but his quick actions probably give him solid pop times. Offensively, Cozzi had a short, crisp swing and kept his mechanics simple and repeatable. He made solid line drive contact to all fields, especially against live pitching when he kept his swing shorter. It looked like he recognized breaking balls early and showed a good command of the strike zone. Cozzi had a good all around set of skills and tools and has a projectable frame for a catcher. He is a strong follow. He is also an excellent student.
