2004 South Top Prospect Showcase
Gentry Zacheis is a 5'11/185 2005 left handed pitcher who traveled down to Waco from New Albany, OH. Zacheis’ arm works very well from a high ¾ to almost overhand release point, and his mechanics are good up until his release point. Zacheis pulls his head off the plate a bit as his arm comes through to accommodate his high release point and this could cause him to struggle with command. His fastball was 81-84 mph with some life. Zacheis also threw a big breaking 68 mph curveball that had very good spin to it. We had the overall impression that Zacheis has more talent that he was able to show during the showcase. He also showed a nice line drive swing in batting practice and some alley to alley power potential. Gentry could have a good DI career.
