Joseph Vail is a 2017 LHP with a 6-2 190 lb. frame from Cromwell, CT who attends Xavier High School. Large, athletic frame with square shoulder and long limbs, physical strength is there with additional room to fill moving forward. Primary lefthanded pitcher, begins delivery with a high leg lift up past belt with short hip turn at top, shows simple mechanics and does a nice job of repeating. Short and quick arm action through the back, creates deception while working to a high three-quarters release point. Creates angle to fastball, topped out at 85 mph and maintains velocity through outing nicely, held from stretch too. Steady life to the arm side and works away from hitters. Excellent feel for changeup, generates short life to it and replicates arm action well, strong confidence in the pitch at 76 mph. Curveball showed tightness to rotation with 1-7 shape in mid-70s, flashed a slider that featured more sweep to the back foot at 79 mph. Able to miss bats and induce weak contact. Good student. Named to Northeast Top-Top Prospect List.
