2016 Atlantic Coast Top Prospect Showcase
Justin Ray is a 2017 OF/RHP with a 6-2 170 lb. frame from Laurinburg, NC who attends Scotland High School. Large frame, medium, athletic build, slender with room to continue to fill out physically and add strength. Posted an impressive 6.84 time in the 60 yard dash. Primary outfielder, moved well to the ball, quick release, accuracy and online throws. Developing arm strength up to 81 mph. At the plate, started tall, even stance, and subtle hand load. Very tall through backside with limited lower half and a short, compact swing. Works up to the ball with strength in frame. Would continue to improve consistency at point of contact with additional lower half. Also pitched, short stride, closed landing, short, compact arm action, hid the ball well, and landed balanced. Limited lower half down the mound with good tempo. Fastball worked 74-76 mph with short arm side life and best when working on top of the pitch. Showed 10/4 shaped curveball with depth, 10/4 shape, and developing spin. Very good student.
