Kevin Lovelace is a 2007 SS/2B with a 6'0'', 190 lb. frame from Escondido CA, who attends San Pasqual HS. Selected as a Top Prospect at this event. Lovelace has a broad frame, with a strong upper body and a compact, athletic build. He is a talented, confident, versatile player with feel for playing the game. He was on the verge of making the top ten list of this event, due to both his performance and his tools. Lovelace played well all over the infield and swung the bat well. He is a line drive hitter that can spray the ball to all fields, while also showing the ability to get to the pull side easily, with some power. He keeps his hands inside the ball and was short to the ball. Lovelace stayed back on offspeed stuff well. He gets through contact with extension and has good bat speed, with some power coming down the road. Defensively there is some flash to his game but he can play. Lovelace showed good actions and feel for defense. He has sure hands and a quick exchange. His arm works easy and tracks well, better than his raw arm strength. He plays confidently and keeps his composure even when not fielding a ball cleanly, sticking with it and making the play His feet work well and will give him a chance to play anywhere from 2B to 3B. His footspeed likely will move him off shortstop at the college level, but a team could do a lot worse than having him at short.
