2011 Top Prospects

Brett McAfee  SS - 2011 - Longview, TX
Panola College

This Texas A&M commit has a very interesting blend of all 5 tools. He is a 6.68 runner who has easy, smooth defensive actions at shortstop and plenty of arm strength to stay at that position. At 6-0, 180 lbs, McAfee also has the strength to generate good bat speed and show present gap power as a hitter.

Justin Anderson  RHP - 2011 - Houston, TX
Texas San Antonio

Anderson is a quality two-way prospect who could develop into a pro prospect either way and who should be a top collegiate player on both sides of the ball. He pitched in the 86-88 mph range with both a hard curveball and hard slider and showed some of the best bat speed and hitting ability at the showcase.

Chase Hodson  RHP - 2011 - Richmond, TX
Miami

The 6-1, 180 lb Hodson has a nice three-pitch mix in an upper 80's fastball that touched 90 mph, a hard 77 mph curveball and an especially nice change up that could develop into a plus pitch for him in the future.

Tyler Coker  OF - 2011 - Atascocita, TX
San Jacinto CC

Coker, who has committed to U. Texas, packs plenty of strength into his 5-9, 160 lb frame in addition to his 6.68 running speed. He has nice bat speed from the left side and can drive the ball up the gaps. Coker's defensive tools mark him as a centerfielder at the next level and he has enough arm strength to throw in the mid-80's off the mound, too.

Brig Gerlich  OF - 2011 - La Vernia, TX
Uncommitted

Gerlich is a imposing physical specimen at 6-4, 225 lbs. He agile and athletic for his size but his big tool, not surprisingly, is his bat and power potential. Gerlich has the type of bat speed and strength to hit the ball out of the park to all fields when he squares it up. He also threw up to 86 mph off the mound.

Brandon Finnegan  LHP - 2011 - Ft Worth, TX
TCU

The 5-11, 165 lb Finnegan has a huge collection of tools, including a fastball that touched 90 mph and very good bat speed that translates into surprising power for someone his size. He can be a high ceiling talent if he develops the skills and focus to use those tools.

Jeff Saldivar  RHP - 2011 - Angleton, TX
Uncommitted

Saldivar has a big and strong 6-5, 220 lb build and throws in the mid to upper 80's with a loose and effortless arm action. He has lots of issues to work through with his delivery but if he's able to make some adjustments he's an easy low 90's arm in the near future.

Jake Wakamatsu  OF - 2011 - Keller, TX
Uncommitted

Wakamatsu has good defensive tools both in the outfield and at second base and he plays faster than his 6.86 speed. A left handed hitter, he shows nice bat speed and should develop nice gap power as he gets stronger. His bloodlines are an obvious bonus as well.

Jordan Zangarine  RHP - 2011 - Rowlett, TX
Texarkana College

The 6-3, 165 lb Zangarine only topped out at 85 mph but has a loose, easy arm that should be able to add plenty of velocity as he gains strength and physical maturity. His low 70's curveball is a nice second pitch that should also add power over time. Zangarine shows athleticism as an outfielder and hitter, an important aspect of projecting him as a pitcher.

Tyler Smith  RHP - 2011 - Nederland, TX
Uncommitted

Smith is an athletic 6-0, 185 lb pitcher who pitched steadily at 86 mph and touched 88 at times. His go to pitch was a sharp breaking 72 mph curveball that had hard bite and that he commanded very well.

Ryan Scott  RHP - 2011 - Sanger, TX
Uncommitted

The 6-2, 185 lb Scott has a strong and loose arm from a very extended arm action. He topped out at 88 mph on his fastball and showed the signs of developing a nice slider to go with it.

Dalton DeLeon  C - 2011 - Burleson, TX
Howard College

DeLeon is a very good defensive catcher with quick feet and a strong arm and posted a top pop time of 1.87. He can also play a very capable third base. A switch-hitter, DeLeon has more bat speed from the right side and a long, powerful swing that will produce plenty of extra base hits.

Justin Wall  C - 2011 - Arlington, TX
Dallas Baptist

Wall is a 5-10 catcher with high energy/quick twitch actions behind the plate. He is very agile and flexible and receives the ball cleanly and blocks well. Wall has lots of bat speed for his size and a power type approach at the plate that works for him as he stays pretty short to the ball.

Ryan Burns  C - 2011 - Baton Rouge, LA
Southeastern Louisiana

Burns is a 5-9 catcher who has short and quick actions on both sides of the baseball. He has nice catch/throw tools and registered a best pop time of 1.90. Burns should be a high average type of hitter at the next level as he keeps his swing very short and crisp, even showing some pull power at times.

Nate Cole  RHP - 2011 - Plano, TX
Wofford

Cole is a big and strong 6-2, 220 lb right hander with a steady 86 mph fastball that will sometimes bump 87 mph. He throws a curveball and split change right now but has an arm action and release well suited to learn a slider.

Buddy McCoy  OF - 2011 - Haughton, LA
Uncommitted

McCoy is a big and strong 6-2, 205 lb right handed hitting outfielder with a very good power/speed combination. He ran the 60 in 6.98 and he has a long and powerful swing that crushes ball left out over the plate. McCoy also has the ability to play catcher along with the outfield.

Dalton Brown  LHP - 2011 - Haltom, TX
Howard College

Brown is a versatile overall player with polished skills in all areas. He topped out at 84 mph on the mound with a nice feel for his slider and should continue to gain strength and velocity. He's sound defensively at both first base and in the outfield and swings the bat with power.

Bradley Adams  RHP - 2011 - Hurst, TX
Uncommitted

Adams is a strong and mature 6-1, 205 lb two-way prospect as a right handed pitcher/first baseman. He pitches at 84-85 mph and throws both a curveball and slider along with a nice change up, all with good command. He has very good bat speed at the plate and the strength to drive the ball up the gaps.

Alex Bruu  RHP - 2011 - McKinney, TX
Paris Junior College

Bruu is a 5-11 right handed pitcher who also has some nice middle infield tools and good overall athleticism. He threw his fastball up to 86 mph with good sink down in the zone and his best pitch was a hard breaking low 70's curveball.

Dillon Stavinoha  LHP - 2011 - Rosenberg, TX
Uncommitted

Stavinoha has a nice mature pitcher's build at 6-3, 205 lbs and a very deceptive left handed delivery that hides the ball very effectively from hitters. He topped out at 85 mph from a crossfire release point that creates good angle to the plate and showed flashes of good feel for a curveball and change up.
