Dingers and Dinkers Scout Notes

URBANDALE, Iowa – Twenty-two teams showed up on April 3 for Perfect Game Midwest Iowa’s first outdoor offering of the spring, the Perfect Game Dingers and Dinkers tournament.

14U

WAC 14U Campos had a great weekend, apart from weather challenges, going 3-1 in pool, outscoring their opponents 45-19. Leading her team offensively was Ella Stobbe (2026, West Des Moines, Iowa), who was titled MV-Player for the 14U division. Stobbe is a force at the plate, spraying the field and finding the ball in each at-bat. She has a short, quick cut with a level bat path that makes her successful. Stobbe had a .917 OBP with four singles, three doubles, and one homer. She stole four bases and was responsible for 12 of WAC’s runs.

Alayna Jackson (2025, West Des Moines, Iowa) is a rising elite slugger for WAC 14U Campos with discipline in each appearance. Jackson produces massive power behind her hands, successful in eight of her 10 at-bats. Jackson does a great job of sitting back and then exploding through contact with a nice level swing, smashing the ball with back-to-back home runs, assisting in 16 of WAC’s runs for the weekend.

Hazel Leinen (2027, Urbandale, Iowa) was dynamite for WAC 14U Campos’s offensive staff. Leinen sprays all depths of the field, with a smooth and level bat path that produces big hits including three singles, one double, and two home runs. Leinen helped WAC with 10 runs for the weekend.

A big part of that destructive offense for WAC 14U Campos is Luicia Nurre (2026, West Des Moines, Iowa), who had an excellent performance at the plate with an .857 batting average. Nurre smacked out six singles, two doubles, three triples, and a home run, marking off every possible stat. Nurre contributed to 14 runs for WAC, closing the weekend with .899 OBP.

Hayden Kresser (2026, Jesup, Iowa) hit .750 on the day playing for CIK 08. Kresser, a catcher and first baseman, has a nice compact swing and does not appear to try to overpower things, instead using a nice load and shift to get her body moving to start her swing. Her hands work inside the ball and she utilizes a solid lower half to generate some pop. She made the most of her three hits on the day recording a triple and a home run, while scoring four runs and collecting six RBI.

16U

Josie Juhl (2025, St. Ansgar, Iowa) thrives on the mound for North Iowa Ice, who went 2-0 in pool play and outscored opponents 19-9. This right-handed pitcher was rightfully titled MV-Pitcher for the 16U at PG 2022 Dingers & Dinkers. The 5-foot-5 freshman pitcher works primarily in the 52-53 mph range, with a pitch-mix variation that works to shut things down. Her best pitches are a late-breaking curve that averages 52 mph and a massive off-speed floating in at 43 mph. In 5 innings, Juhl struck out 11 opponents for an overall 1.41 WHIP. She’s just as successful in the box, going 5-for-6, helping the cause with four RBI.

Kennedy Conner (2025, North Liberty, Iowa) was titled MV-Player for the 16U division for Thunder 16u Black. At the plate, Conner is a lefty slugger with elite pull-side power. Conner easily finds the 3-4 gap, sending hard ground balls to the outfield. With a simple touch-and-go explosion, she makes solid, clean contact, assisting her in 8-of-9 at-bats. Connor collected five singles, two doubles, and a homer, crossing the pay station five times and assisting in four additional runs for Thunder 16U Black. Defensively as a third baseman, Connor possesses a sound glove. In the hot spot, she has quick reaction time and a strong arm getting the out.

Teammate Isabella Salazar (2025, Washington, Iowa) for Thunder 16u Black is a right-handed pitcher and shortstop. Salazar is a foundational two-way player with a strong presence at the plate and tremendous feel for the barrel. This freshman hitter shows beautiful extension through contact, sending the ball deep into the field. Salazar collected a .556 batting average for the weekend. More impressively, in the circle, Salazar had eight appearances, shutting down seven batters and earning a 1.56 WHIP for the weekend. She pumps out 55-58 velocity, each with solid spin that clips the corners of the zone, capitalizing on a jumping rise for a swing-and-miss product. Apart from her athletic ability, Salazar shines for her leadership, making a confident presence for her teammates.

Kyla Schulte (2026, Amana, Iowa) is an eighth grader for Thunder 14u Black who played up a division this weekend. This young prospect had an exceptional performance, having a perfect record at the plate. Schulte is an extremely disciplined hitter with massive zone awareness, knowing which pitch to jump on, having walked twice. Schulte is a plus power hitter, with a strong lower half that assists in launching the ball deep. Her success included one single, two doubles, and two home runs. Schulte helped the cause with seven RBI, proving she makes things happen for Thunder 14U Black. A bright future for this 2025 slugger.

Delaney Ball (2024, North Liberty, Iowa) of Iowa Elite Red does a fantastic job at keeping her frontside quiet and throwing her hands towards the ball, collecting an .800 average, including three singles and one triple.

Haley Glade (2025, Earlham, Iowa), hitting for Central Iowa Riptide 16U Elite, had a perfect weekend. She was 4-for-4 at the plate, racking up three singles and a bomb, knocking in seven runs.

Ava Hohenadel (2025, Waukee, Iowa), a plus power hitter for Central Iowa Riptide 16U Elite, annihilated two over the fence. Hohenadel went 4-for-7 in the box, helping the cause by knocking in eight runs.

18u

The Iowa Bandits, carrying momentum it had built up during the winter indoor season, did not skip a beat as they marched through the competition to earn the 18u championship with a 4-0 win over Iowa Aces – Callsen. Bandits pitcher Madison Oetzmann (2023, Urbandale, Iowa) picked up the win, striking out eight in her six innings of work. For the day she ended up with 19 strikeouts in 12 innings of work, only giving up 1 earned run. MV-Pitcher of the tournament was Bandits teammate, Zadie Wadle (2023, Indianola, Iowa), an uncommitted junior from Norwalk High School. Wadle showed great command of her pitches, throwing each with a smooth, repeatable delivery while working both sides of the plate, and topping out at 59 mph. On a day that saw the weather effect velocity and a feel for the ball, Wadle put together eight strong innings striking out 16, walking none and not giving up an earned run.

The tournament MV-Player went to Iowa Aces – Callsen's Emri Agre (2023, Leighton, Iowa). This uncommitted junior outfielder, swinging from the left side, does a good job of keeping her hands inside the ball allowing her to work gap-to-gap. In the outfield, Agre gets good reads on fly balls and takes good angles, cutting off balls before they reach the fence in the gaps. For the tournament, Agre had a batting average of .833 with five hits that included two doubles, earned three walks, scored three runs and knocked in two runs.

Other players making some noise included Grace Bailey (2022, Hamilton, Iowa). This DMACC softball commit, playing for Iowa Aces – Callsen, hit .800 for the day. Bailey, hitting from the right side, in a more upright stance with her hands above her shoulder, utilized a small stride to initiate launch, getting the bat on plane through the zone to work behind and through the ball. This approach allowed her to collect eight hits, incredibly five were doubles, while knocking in five runs.

Right-handed pitcher, Emily Meyer (2023, Swea City, Iowa) put in a workman-like performance for her QC Angels team, tossing a team-high 11 1/3 innings. She sat consistently at 55 mph, with a top velocity of 57 mph. She generated good spin on her movement pitches, but may have been hampered by the weather conditions. Meyers worked both sides of the plate, changed levels effectively, and recorded 14 strikeouts on the day.

Lights Out Fastpitch right-handed pitcher Brooklyn Bettis (2024, Cedar, Iowa) showed those in attendance that you don’t have to throw hard to be successful. Bettis, with a fastball that averaged 53 mph, made the most of her five innings of work. She struck out 10 in those five innings and did not allow a hit in earning the win. Movement and pitch location were key to Bettis’ success.

Jena Young (2023, Winterset, Iowa), a University of Iowa commit, had 6 hits, 4 doubles, and 7 runs scored on the day.

Grace Albrecht (2022, Urbandale, Iowa) had 5 hits, knocking in 6 runs in the process.

Ava Smith (2023, Waukee, Iowa) notched 6 hits, 1 triple, and 1 home run with 4 RBI.

PG has announced the dates for Prospect Gateway events across the country - unique opportunities for young players to receive professional feedback and prepare for the next level.
