It was a great weekend of softball in Pearland, Texas last weekend. Fifteen teams converged in the 18U six-game guarantee tournament to compete in front of a solid group of college coaches. The standout team of the weekend was the Strykers Premier 18U who went a perfect 8-0 on the weekend. Below we recap some of the impressive performances in the 18U division.

Naomi Cruz (2027, Santa Fe, TX) of the Strykers Premier 18U is the kind of athlete who doesn’t just show up, she shifts the momentum when she steps on the dirt. With a rare blend of power and precision, she’s hitting at a scorching pace for Strykers Premiere, stacking a .436 average over eight games. She came in clutch on many occasions, driving in five runs for her team and belting two doubles. On defense, she’s the steady heartbeat of the infield, calm hands, sharp instincts, and the kind of trust you build a lineup around. Naomi plays big, plays smart, and brings an energy that makes it clear she’s just getting started.

She proved she can drive the ball to all fields and was impressive with her ability to drive extra base hits. She finished with a double, triple, two homeruns, and drove in seven runs for her squad. Beyond her athletic ability, she’s a natural leader, kind, composed, and uplifting to her teammates. Gaby Sanchez (2027, Pasadena, TX) from Strykers Premier 18U flashed her versatility all weekend, finishing with an impressive .700 at the plate. She was seeing the ball well, driving two doubles and a homerun. She finished with six RBIs and drew four walks. A true utility weapon, she bounces seamlessly from the dirt to the grass, always giving her team exactly what they need. She plays the hop with confidence, reads the ball early, and pairs fast hands with a reliable, on-target arm. A steady playmaker who elevates every inning she’s in.

Crystianna Coleman (2026, Manvel, TX) who plays for Firecrackers HTX Elite 18U, is a tall, powerful athlete who steps into the box with confidence and purpose. She consistently shows the ability to drive the ball and execute her plan at the plate, posting impressive numbers with a 1.821 OPS and .667 average over the weekend. Her poise and presence make her a tough out for any pitcher, and her consistent production highlights her maturity as a hitter. She drove in eight runs for her squad, showing her ability to be clutch in tough situations.  Coleman’s three doubles and two triples showcased her ability for barrel pop as well. Crystianna’s confidence and strong approach at the plate make her a key offensive weapon and a player with exciting potential for continued growth.

She has a mature approach at the plate, working deep into counts and battling off tough pitches until she gets one, she can drive. Her offensive production speaks for itself, posting a 1.806 OPS and .667 average across eight games. She had a great eye at the plate, drawing seven walks and was the definition of clutch with 12 RBI’s. In the field, Ahmani is a reliable and steady first baseman who plays with confidence and awareness. Her competitive mindset and ability to produce in key moments make her the kind of player who can shift momentum and spark her team when it matters most.

Jacie Roden (2027, Kirbyville, TX) who competes for Mid-County Mojo and Kirbyville High School, is a fun, energetic leader who knows when to lock in and get the job done. A true utility player, she can make an impact anywhere on the field, including in the circle, where her strong arm and competitive drive stand out. Through her recent performances, Jacie has proven her consistency at the plate, posting a 1.492 OPS with a .714 average in one stretch, and following that with a 1.222 OPS and .556 average. Her ability to perform under pressure and contribute on both sides of the ball makes her a valuable leader and difference-maker for any team she’s on. Beyond her skills, Jaice’s fun, goofy personality makes her a joy to be around and helps keep her team loose and connected both on and off the field.

Xaida Bettis (2026, Spring, TX) who plays for Firecrackers HTX, is a dynamic lefty slapper with game- changing speed and versatility. She can beat out a bunt or drive the ball to the outfield, keeping defenses on their heels every time she steps to the plate. Over four games, she’s posted a 1.271 OPS and .571 average, showcasing her ability to get on base and create instant pressure. Xaida’s speed doesn’t stop on offense—she uses it to her advantage in the field, covering ground with ease in the outfield and showing quick, reliable hands when playing shortstop. Her athleticism and competitive edge make her a dangerous player on both sides of the ball.

Elizabeth Posada (2028, Houston, TX) who competes for the Aztecs Premier is a powerful and confident pitcher who commands attention every time she steps on the field. She attacks hitters with intensity, charging off the mound to field her position with precision and athleticism. She led her team in ERA and kept opponents to a .259 batting average. Not only was she steady in the circle, but she also brought strength to the plate, proving she can hit for herself with a 1.396 OPS and .429 average over six games. She was impressive with her offensive output, driving three homeruns and ten RBIs for her team. Elizabeth exudes confidence on both sides of the ball, setting the tone for her team with her focus and competitiveness. Baseball Meets Hollywood For Great Cause

Jim Salisbury

BASEBALL MEETS HOLLYWOOD FOR A GREAT CAUSE    There’s no crying in baseball, but there is laughing, and there was lots and lots of it -- for a great cause -- last Saturday night in Hollywood, California. Perfect Game and its Believe in Baseball Foundation assembled a star-studded cast of comics and guests for the inaugural “In the Spirit of the Game” dinner and auction. The event was held at the iconic Laugh Factory, a historic venue that, in baseball terms, would be equivalent to Dodger Stadium or Wrigley Field. Late-night superstar Jay Leno took a turn on stage. So did comedic aces Tiffany Haddish, Nikki Glaser, Dustin Ybarra and Gary Cannon. “It was 4 ½ hours of straight laughter,” said PG commissioner Dennis Gilbert, still beaming a couple of days later. “It was a really nice success.” No one kept score at the event, but...

West Region High School Sleepers

Joey Cohen
Article Image
Talking and debating sleeper prospects might be my favorite part of scouting. It’s where context, projection, and conviction matter most—whether it’s an underrated performer who keeps producing on the circuit, a raw but explosive athlete you can dream on, or an arm with starter traits that hasn’t quite made the stuff jump yet. These are the players who tend to separate evaluators, reward patience, and make the spring HS season really fascinating. Below are several West Region prospects outside the T100 who fit that mold and deserve serious attention as the spring unfolds. Jet Berry, Queen Creek HS, Arizona There’s a lot to like with Berry. He’s one of the more explosive, twitchy athletes in the country, and it shows consistently in all facets of his game. From a tools perspective his easy plus run and bat-to-ball ability stand out. He’s been a...

Preseason NAIA Top 25

Nick Herfordt
Article Image
The 2026 NAIA Baseball Rankings arrive with the familiar weight of expectations and a few fresh storylines that make the new season feel electric from top to bottom. At the very front of the pack, perennial power Tennessee Wesleyan stands tall once again, a program that has turned sustained excellence into something bordering on routine. The Bulldogs are not just ranked highly, they set the tone. Year after year, they combine elite talent, veteran leadership, and a culture that refuses to blink under pressure. It says everything about the depth of this year’s field that it was genuinely difficult not to slide LSU Shreveport back into the top spot yet again. After all, how in the world does a team stay that good after losing so many impact players? The answer is simple and timeless. Success breeds success. Programs that live in championship air know how to reload, not reset, and...

Wolforth Throwing Mentorship: Article 62

Ron Wolforth

Wolforth Throwing Mentorship: Article 62, Part 1 Demystifying the Curveball, Pitch Counts, and Weighted Balls - Part 2  Now, on to Part 2 of our three-part series on baseball's most misunderstood topics. We tackled the curveball. Next up: pitch counts. And in Part 3, we'll address weighted balls, another subject where fear has outpaced reason.   Why these three? Because they share something in common: each has been reduced to a simplistic, one-size-fits-all rule that ignores the complexity of human performance. And in each case, well-meaning people have latched onto these rules as if they're gospel, while the arm injury epidemic continues unabated.  It's time to think more clearly.   Part II: Demystifying Pitch Counts   Let me be clear from the start: I am not anti-pitch count.   Pitch counts are a valuable tool. We use them at...

Monday Morning SoCal Notebook

Three hitters and three pitchers that really impressed or improved their stock at the Area Code Select at Dodger Stadium.  Gotta start with James Clark as he stole the show offensively, and right out of the gate, with a pull side home run as just the second hitter of the game.  Added a triple to the pull side again, again on the barrel.  Added a single up the middle.  Really showed exceptional feel for the barrel.  Flew out to center field on two occasions, both barreled up pretty well, with one getting lost in the sun.  I’m old and salty, so didn’t give him the double for the cycle, but he was the most impressive bat (easily) on the day.   One of the other position players that impressed, I’ve been somewhat critical of, have spoken with his travel coach a little bit about him behind the plate, but Vista Murrieta catcher Taytum...

Florida All Region Team & Top Tools

David Rawnsley
Article Image
This is a golden age of Florida high school baseball and the 2026 All-Region (Florida) Team reflects that.  The entire team is made up of 2025 Perfect Game All-Americans, plus two Top 10 underclassmen.  The pitching staff is especially strong and runs much deeper than the five pitchers listed below.  And things are unlikely to change in the near future, as there are currently 17 players from Florida in the Top 100 in the 2027 PG Class Rankings, a total that doesn’t include players from other states who attend IMG Academy or other Florida based academies. That individual strength among top prospects is reflected in the top teams in the state as well.  An eye opening six Florida teams are ranked in the Top 13 in the pre-season 2026 national high school rankings.  Perennial national title contender Stoneman Douglas, led by LHP-1B Gio Rojas, is ranked second in...
