Spring is right around the corner, with warmer days, flowers, rain showers and softball. Teams from around the Midwest once again converged at Griffon Indoor stadium in St. Joseph, Mo. this past weekend for one last chance to knock the rust off and claim regional bragging rights. On Saturday the 18u teams battled, with Hawkette Maroon and West Des Moines Tigers winning their respective pools, finishing pool play 3-1 and 4-0, respectively. Sunday the 14u squared off with MC Creepers and Nebraska Echos Rasmussen both finishing the day perfect at 4-0.

Saturday was full of talented players and competitive teams. Many future college softball players took the field, both committed and uncommitted. The Fury Gold Bestenlehner squad played hard all day long. Leading the way for the Fury was Madison Divis (2022, Lincoln, Neb.). Divis, a Butler Community College commit, demonstrated the reason the Grizzlies recruited her. Divis used her gap-to-gap power to collect three doubles on the day. That power drove in four runs, while her speed captured three stolen bases and scored five more runs. Divis will fit right in at the next level.

Brooklyn Saysoff (2023, Blue Springs, Mo.) for Nebraska Gold 816 16u had herself an offensive day. This Southeast Missouri State commit used her strong upper half to drive the ball to all fields. Saysoff’s on-time approach and line drive bat path helped this young lady notch four hits, driving in seven runs. As if that was not impressive enough she also scored two runs, stole two bases and hit one of the longest home runs, hitting the AC return unit 30 feet up the left-center wall.

Hitting was not the only thing on display Saturday. Jordan Bussey (2023, Lincoln, Neb.) for Nebraska Quakes Spencer was overpowering all day. Bussey used a mix of pitches to compile 23 strikeouts over nine innings pitched. Bussey seemed to be throwing from 20 feet, not the standard 43 feet. Topping out at 63 mph, Bussey changed speeds, used movement on all pitches and had a devastating late-life curveball that seemed to know where the bat was and missed it every time. Bussey is uncommitted, but playing on a college softball field is in her future.

Hawkette Maroon scored more runs than any team in both pools (25). Reagan Enright (2023, Ankeny, Iowa) and Rylee Riesberg (2023, Ankeny, Iowa) were a huge part of the team's success. Enright has a ton of pop in her barrel. The ball explodes off the bat for rocket line drives and hard hit ground balls. Enright collected five RBI and scored three runs, and she also hit a home run so far it hit the opposite field fence in the air. Riesberg, not to be out done by her Maroon teammate, used feel for the barrel and found and drove pitches to all fields. Collecting five hits, four of which were doubles, Riesberg did her job bringing in runners, driving in three and scoring four more.

Sunday also had its share of talent on the field. Several players showed tremendous potential and skills. One such projectable player is from the Missouri Bandits 08 Thomas squad. Alyson Moorman (2026, O’Fallon, Mo.) showcases several tools in her softball tool belt. Smooth fielding, effortless throwing, plus baserunning and awareness coupled with strong, quick hands with the ability to drive the softball makes Moorman a player to watch in the coming years.

The STL Comets 07 team is an all-around athletic and well-coached club. Raegan Shelton (2025, House Springs, Mo.) has poise and composure of a player much older than her. Staying true to her plan and approach, Shelton never gets nervous nor goes after a pitch she does not like. Taking whatever the pitcher gives her, Shelton has the ability to take the bat head to the ball and square up even the most difficult pitches.

Team Kansas Elite - Hays plays the right way, always coming ready to play and seems to have fun doing it. Anna Fitzgibbons (2026, Gardner, Kan.) is a big part of that chemistry. Leading the field from the shortstop position, Fitzgibbons uses a high softball IQ to help her club every chance she gets. Quick hands and a line drive approach gives her deceptive power at the plate, helping her collect two doubles on the day.

PG Stars Over Florida Showcase 18U Division Clearwater, FL June 13-14, 2026 CLEARWATER, FLORIDA- Perfect Game Softball made its official debut in the state of Florida this past weekend at Eddie C. Moore sports complex. The weather was perfect, and the atmosphere was right for some great softball. After five days of competitive baseball, Legion Baseball emerged as champions at the Perfect Game WWBA Championship, completing an impressive tournament run with a victory over ‘28 San DIego Ghost 10-3 in the championship game at Surprise Stadium. The tournament brought together talented programs from across the West and beyond, with teams competing in the 15U and 16U divisions. Throughout the week, players showcased their skills in front of coaches, teammates, and families while battling through pool play and the championship bracket for the opportunity to hoist the trophy. 2026 MLB Draft: Roster Challenge

With the 2026 MLB Draft complete, our own draft team put together a fun exercise. Using a snake style draft format, we each had to build a roster using players selected in the 2026 MLB Draft. There was one catch. Each team could select only one player from each of the first 10 rounds, plus one player from Rounds 11-20.
