PG Softball Gets Going in Coastal Region

HUNTERSVILLE, North Carolina -- The long-awaited debut of Perfect Game Softball becomes a reality this weekend, when 80 teams will gather in Huntersville, N.C. for the 2021 PG Softball Umpire Training Tournament. Four age groups – 10U, 12U, 14U, and High School – will participate in the tournament. Each team will play two games, with modified time limits, as the initial 2021 PG Fast Pitch Softball tournament will help clubs and organizations shake the winter rust off in preparation for the upcoming spring and summer seasons.

The first PG tournament of the year will be held at North Meck Park, which is scheduled to host numerous PG events throughout the year and is a beautiful facility that has both softball and baseball fields that are in pristine shape and ready for the quality action that all Perfect Game competition brings.

Numerous teams from around the region, with longstanding organizational pride and a tradition of excellence, are scheduled to appear in the exhibition contests on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 27 and 28, at NMP. Some of the quality organizations slated to appear over the course of the two day event include Bandits NC, Carolina Elite, Lady Blues, Firecrackers NC, Lady Dukes, Carolina Cardinals, and Lady Lightening. There are also a number of up-and-coming organizations and teams who will undoubtedly leave their early mark on the Coastal Region softball world in this warm-up tournament. All participating clubs will use the early competition in Huntersville to ramp up their players and teams for an exciting spring and summer of PG Softball.

As usual, the quality associated with Perfect Game events will be ever-present. Jeff Hall, the Coastal Region Director, will have his outstanding staff present to ensure that all teams, coaches, parents, and fans truly enjoy their first experience with PG Softball. DiamondKast – the official, in-game scoring system of Perfect Game, will be demonstrated and explained to all. The 2021 PG Softball Tournament schedule will also be made available to organizations and teams. PG is offering a wide variety of tournament opportunities throughout the Coastal Region this year, including a couple of chances for clubs to play “at the beach”. All tournament information is currently viewable on the PG website under the PG Softball tab.

This tournament will also see the PG Softball scouting staff present. Many teams and players will be highlighted at the conclusion of this event and those reports will be viewable the week after the tournament on the PG website.

The 2021 competitive tournament season promises to be a great experience for many organizations, teams, players, families, and fans. Perfect Game will help lead the way. The 26-year history of Perfect Game lends itself well to the softball world and promises to help unify the fast pitch community. The excitement is palpable, and 2021 promises to be a great year in and with Perfect Game, as we help set the standard for fast pitch softball in the Coastal Region and across the country.

Our scouts were treated to an incredible display of talent and athleticism throughout the event, and below are the standout players who truly caught our eye. Big Offense Wins TBT/FTB Phillies Scout WWBA Freshman Title Runs scoring in every inning led to the TBT/FTB Phillies Scout Team taking home the 2026 PG WWBA Freshman World Championship - winning over Canes National 15U 10-5. It had been a long week in West Palm Beach for the freshmen coming in from around the country to go up against the best of the best. While they had gotten to play on the backfields during the whole tournament, the players who made it to the championship game got to play it in the CACTI Park of the Palm Beaches Stadium. TBT/FTB showed their defensive strength right away - executing quickly to retire each of the first three batters. East Cobb/SD Padres ST Explode Late for WWBA Worlds Win A hard-fought, crazy ending resulted in the East Cobb/SD Padres scout team coming back and winning the 2026 PG WWBA World Championship over the SBA/Marlins Scout Team 2028. The score was 8-7 after the championship was won with a walk-off balk. After going against some of the most talented, highly-ranked players in the country for the past couple days, it was finally time for the championship game at Roger Dean Complex Stadium in Jupiter, FL. WWBA Freshman Scout Notes: Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3 James Watson (2030, Canton, Ga.) showed the two-way upside to start bracket play for East Cobb Astros 15u. On the mound the right-handed pitcher went three innings and with three strikeouts and spread five hits and two walks for three runs. Watson works from a hybrid windup from the middle-of-the-rubber into a small heel-turn and an around-the-belt leg lift before using drop-and-drive back leg mechanics into a longer, in-line stride down the mound. Showed some feel to get extension down the mound. The hands separate into a moderate arm action before accelerating through from an over-the-top arm angle. The right-handed hitter starts from a spread stance with his weight shifted forward and in-line feet with a high handset and an even back elbow, utilizes a heel lift weight transfer trigger. WWBA World Championship Notes: Day 1 ‘27 C Joshua Digulio (TX) opened the morning in Cacti Park with a bang. In his first at-bat of the morning, Digulio crushed an 0-2 fastball. The right-handed hitter powered a fly-ball through the Florida morning humidity off the back wall of the left field bullpen for a no-doubt solo shot. Everybody in the stadium knew it was gone as soon as he made contact. The catcher also worked a walk in his only other plate appearance.
