C-OF David Armstrong: Armstrong is a multi-talented ball player who is a prime candidate to play all 9 positions in a game sometime in the future. We’ve had him at many events in the past, including the AFLAC All-American game last year. He’s a primary catcher with solid catching skills but his overall speed, athleticism and baseball skills let him play anywhere on the field in addition to pitching. Armstrong has some power potential in the future, although we’re not sure his present approach at the plate will enable him to fulfill it. The ball jumps off his bat well on contact and Armstrong has always been a good performance player. He’s signed to play college baseball at Southwest Missouri State.

Armstrong is one of the top "gamers" in the country and is one of the more versatile players we’ve seen in years. He’s the kind of athlete and player who would be comfortable playing any of the 9 positions on the field and would probably do a very good job at each. Armstrong is a strong defensive catcher with good shifting ability and a good, strong accurate arm. We think that Armstrong’s throwing was off significantly in Fort Myers because of the time of year as he usually throws 85+ off the mound with a big league average arm from behind the plate. Armstrong generates excellent bat speed with some shortness to his swing and has line drive, alley to alley power. David has proven that he can hit the best pitchers in the country. He’s a very good student who has signed to attend SW Missouri State.

In a very strong group of catchers, Armstrong showed that he was one of the best in Waco with his tools alone. He began the event by running a 6.81 which is a plus time for any catching prospect. He showed off his arm by popping routinely between 2.0-2.1 in a low posture and throwing 78 mph on the bag. His pop times were comparable in game situations as he preferred not to cheat from where he received the ball. His bat is another big attribute as he showed hard line drive ability in his short and strong swing. He has power and showed some impressive swings from some top pitching. He has excellent bat speed and the ball jumps off the wood. His wood bat sounds a bit different in a good way. David has big time makeup and is a very good student.

Solid "04" with very good tools. Real good catcher with a hose and quickness. Good strong outfield arm and plus running speed. Throws mid 80s from the mound. Good hitter, he takes a man sized hack. Tough kid with good body who could become one of the top catchers in the 04 class.
