Adrian Cardenas is a 2006 shortstop from Miami Lakes, FL with a strong athletic build at 6-0, 180 lbs. He is an exceptionally smooth defensive player with advanced actions and balance in the field. His pure arm strength is a tick short of ideal but Cardenas has a very quick release and can throw effectively from any arm angle. He'll be able to stay at shortstop to the upper levels of baseball. He is a 6.89 runner in the 60. Cardenas is a right handed hitter with quick hips and a rotation swing. He has a line drive swing plane and good balance, which enables him to make consistent hard contact. He likes to pull the ball with these swing mechanics and has the strength to get the ball up the alley or into the corner, which could develop into home run power down the road. Cardenas is an exceptional student off the field.

Adrian Cardenas -- Cardenas is a left handed hitting sophomore infielder from Miami with big time potential. He’s not your classic slender live bodied Latin shortstop. Cardenas has a strong, well muscled body that really looks like it’s hardening up well. There’s a chance Cardenas could end up at third or even second but for right now he can really pick it at shortstop. Cardenas has plenty of arm strength for any position as well. At the plate, Cardenas generates very good bat speed from a wide base. He’s a polished hitter who can fight off tough pitches and turn on the cripples and hit them with impressive loft power for his age. Cardenas runs very well for his age and size but how he develops this part of his game could determine whether he is a 5-tool talent or not. He’s also an outstanding student.

Cardenas is very young and very talented. His tools are not yet where they need to be, but he has athletic actions. Being so young you must think he will improve in all areas and become a top prospect.
