Matt Boyd is a 2009 1B/P with a 6'1'', 190 lb. frame from Mercer Island WA, who attends Eastside Catholic. Boyd has a big frame with a good athletic build. Defensively, Boyd has developing arm strength and throws with a loose arm action. He has soft hands and makes the picks well at first base. Boyd has solid footwork and moves very well around the base. He has solid actions with nice body control. At the plate, Boyd starts with a slightly open stance and swings from a crouch. He has low hands with a busy load before he swings. Boyd generates some raw bat speed and has some power potential in there. He has good hand eye coordination as he centers the baseball up well. Boyd pitches from a 3/4 arm slot with a live arm. He uses a short arm action and uses a consistent repeatable delivery. He has a good upside and is a very good student.
