Drew Abernathy is a 2009 LHP with a 6'0'', 170 lb. frame from Greenwood, LA, who attends Evangel Christian Academy. Named to the Top Prospect Team at this event. Abernathy has a lean and wiry frame with good projection. On the mound he throws from a high 3/4 arm slot with a short arm circle on the back side. He has good arm speed and arm action and throws with minimal effort. Abernathy throws slightly across his body with his land foot closed, but he maintains his balance throughout his delivery. He gets good cutting action on his fastball that topped out at 79 mph, and he shows good control of the pitch working it in and out and up and down. Abernathy allowed only 2 hits in 3 innings while striking out 4. At the plate he showed good bat speed with a line drive swing plane from a very open stance, and has projectable power. Abernathy has very good upside on the mound and must be followed.
