Chris Baker is a 5'10" 175 pound 2006 catcher, pitcher, and third baseman from Bradenton, Florida who attends Lakewood Ranch High School. He has a short athletic body with some good strength. Chris has good catch and throw mechanics behind the plate. He is very agile and receives very well. His arm is very accurate with solid arm strength and good pop times. His top throw was at 75 mph and a 2.03 pop time. On the mound, he throws from a high 3/4 arm slot with a short compact arm action. He has a quick arm with decent control. His fastball was fairly straight at 81 mph and his curveball was very tight with late break at 68 mph. He finishes well to the plate and likes to pitch inside. Baker has a short compact swing that is very level. He has a line drive swing plane and makes solid contact with good bat control. Chris is a solid all around prospect who is an excellent student as well with a 3.4 gpa and a 1590 on his SAT.

Chris Baker -- Baker is a sophomore catcher from Florida. He hits from a no load, no stride approach at the plate with a short swing that maximizes his contact rate but doesn’t provide him with much extension or power. Baker is aggressive at the plate and hit some balls hard in game situations. Our scouts were impressed with the way that Baker handled himself behind the plate. He shifts and moves well on balls in the dirt and has soft hands. Baker’s throwing in games was better than it was in the workouts. He has a good arm. He needs to get stronger and faster, but Baker has some nice skills. He’s also a very good student.
