2006 Spring Top Prospect Showcase
Alex Hirsch is a 2006 3B/IF with a 6'1'', 160 lb. frame from Muscatine IA, who attends Muscatine HS. He has a tall, lean build with developing strength. Hirsch is a good runner at 7.10. He played both third base and the outfield at the event and looked better and more comfortable in the outfield. Hirsch moves well to the ball in the outfield and makes on line, accurate throws. In the infield, he has good balance and soft hands fielding the ball but his feet don't work as well. His arm is accurate in the infield but might be a bit short in strength. Offensively, Hirsch has a simple, tall set up with an upper body rotational swing. He has a line drive swing plane and stays inside the ball well. The ball jumped off his bat pretty well on contact and he should improve with better use of his lower half and hands. Hirsch is also a good student.
