Jake Colavito is a 2008 1B/3B with a 6'3'', 210 lb. frame from Schenectady, NY who attends Guilderland HS. He has a big framed, strong build that is physically mature. He'll have to work hard to keep in condition and maintain his body life. Colavito's tool is his power bat. He has very strong hands and develops very good late bat speed through the ball with an aggressive attack on the ball. Colavito has a big wrap to start his swing and has a "Big Dipper" approach in his swing with lots of pull and loft to his swing. He would benefit from more lower half turn in his swing and tends to hit around the ball with his hands. The raw tools are there for a dangerous power hitter, though. Colavito is well balanced around first base with soft hands. He is an excellent student.

Jake Colavito is a 2008 3B/1B/P with a 6'2'', 210 lb. frame from Schenectady, New York, who attends Guilderland HS. Named to the Top Prospect Team at the event. Colavito has an extra large frame with present strength in his body. Defensively he has very soft hands at the corner infield spots. He comes and gets the ball well attacking it, instead of playing back. Colavito has solid footwork and gets in proper fielding position. At the plate he is a left handed hitter who hits from a narrow base and takes a short stride. He has a calm approach, but swings hard when he swings. Colavito has bat speed through the hitting zone, and gets good leverage at the point of contact. The leverage, bat speed, and strength gives him good power potential. He is a patient hitter with good knowledge of the strike zone. There is upside at the plate. He is a good student as well.
