Noah Northrop is a 2008 right handed pitcher from Charter Oak HS, residing in Covina, CA. He has a 6'2" 170 lb. frame and a long, somewhat rangy body that is clearly still developing and has some physical projectability. Northop's raw stuff is not eye-popping at this time but he can pitch and should be followed closely. He pitches with a short arm action and from an over the top slot. He starts his delivery with a high leg lift and maintains good body control and rhythm. Northop understands how to use his lower half and that will bode well for him as he gets stronger in the coming years. His fastball topped at 81 mph and had some arm side run that could turn to sink over time, especially as he is able to extend his release point. He showed the ability to use his 12/6ish curveball, which has rolling action and decent depth. Northop has the ability to throw his curveball for quality strikes at any time and demonstrated the ability to pitch backwards, maximizing his breaking balls effectiveness at this stage of his development. He has a change-up too and did a nice job of keeping it down in the zone. Northop is a strike thrower with a three-pitch mix, lanky body and an understanding of how to pitch. He should be kept on all D1 follow lists and seen again in the summer of 2007 to check his progress.
