Brandon Holden is a 2006 right handed pitcher from Coral Springs, FL with a tall lean projectable build at 6-4, 185 lbs. He had lost 17 lbs in the weeks leading up to the National with a viral infection and was not at anywhere close to full strength, but was still plenty good. We've seen him numerous times in the past, too. Holden throws with a high leg kick and solid, easy to repeat mechanics. His fastball topped out at 89 mph in Atlanta despite his being weak and most were 88 mph. Holden's biggest weapon has always been his curveball and it showed a big sweeping break and very good velocity at 77 mph. Holden also throws a very good change up. When he's on his game and setting up his curveball, Holden has shown us that he can dominate any line up in the country. He has very good pitchability and projects to keep improving. Highest level prospect. Holden has signed with Florida.

Brandon Holden -- Holden has quickly established himself as one of the top young pitching prospects in the sophomore class. He has a classic projectable pitcher’s body with long arms and legs and great leverage to the plate. Holden’s arm works great with a long, loose arc and the ball explodes out of his hand at 88-90 mph consistently with good life. Holden’t breaking ball was 71-73 mph and while the downer break was good, this is a pitch that Holden can tighten up just a bit. We didn’t see a change up. He also swings the bat well and showed us above average power potential in batting practice and in games. Get used to seeing this young man’s name on the prospect lists. Brandon is going to create a ton of interest for MLB scouts and top level college recruiters.
