Kott is a 6-4, 185 lb senior left handed pitcher from North Carolina with a slender, immature body. He also shows prospect skills at first base that interested us. On the mound, Kott has sound pitching mechanics through his release and maintains good balance and direction to the plate. His arm works smoothly but he hasn't developed the kind of arm speed he may down the road when he starts filling out and getting stronger. Kott has some effort on release and pulls off the plate some at that point. His fastball was 74-77 mph and he did a good job of pitching down in the strike zone. Kott's best pitch was a 62 mph curveball that had very good sharpness and bite once he developed a feel for it. He also threw a 67 mph change up. Kott's lack of present physical strength didn't affect him as much as a position player. He has a very smooth swing from a spread stance and gets plus extension through the ball. He showed power during batting practice then blasted a triple over the centerfielder's head during one of many solid at bats in the games. Kott also showed smooth fielding actions at first base. He should definitely be followed as a hitter as well as a pitcher and looks like he will be a late developer physically. Kott is also a very good student.

Kott is a tall and wiry 6-4, 185 lb athlete from North Carolina who lists himself as a primary pitcher but who we strongly feel is a better position prospect based on what we saw in Fort Myers. He hasn't come close to maturing physically or starting to get strong. Kott showed good speed in running a 7.19 60 on the wet, slow track and threw 74 mph during infield drills. He showed good lively actions and lots of hustle at first base and is certainly athletic enough to play the outfield well if he has the aptitide. Kott took one of the best batting practices of any player at the showcase. He has a simple no stride approach with a nice upper body coil and really whips the bat head through the hitting zone quickly. He has the ability to hit the ball deep in the zone and still pull it hard by getting his hands through quickly. Kott also showed some power that could really develop as he gets stronger. He should be followed closely as a hitter. Kott also threw three innings in relief at the showcase, showing a 75-77 mph fastball to go along with a low 60’s curveball and 67-70 mph change up. He has a good delivery and pitching mechanics but doesn't have the present arm speed to project very far at this time. Kott is a very good student. Sleeper!
