Chad Meier is a 2008 second baseman/shortstop from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with a 5'7" frame. Meier showed good actions defensively in the middle infield with good footwork and hands. He has solid arm strength, but needs to quicken his release. Meier has good range and made some nice plays up the middle. He also shows good agility on slow rollers. He hits from a crouched stance with a leg lift trigger, and has a slight lift in his swing plane that causes him to hit the lower half of the ball. Meier has a good knowledge of the strike zone and doesn't chase bad pitches. Meier has the athleticism and agility to improve greatly over the next few years. He is a player that should be followed.
