Seth Cox is a 2008 first baseman/left handed pitcher from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with a lean and athletic 5'10", 155 lb. frame. Cox has good rhythm at the plate with a slight lift in his swing. He showed good bat speed in the showcase games, and had some hard hit balls including a double to the left field fence. Defensively he has good footwork and good arm speed on throws across the diamond. Cox sometimes fields the ball deep in his stance. He pitches from a high 3/4 arm slot with a loose arm. He has solid mechanics, but could get better use of his lower half. Cox throws his fastball downhill at 74 mph with some natural cut and keeps it low in the zone. He also mixes in a 61 mph curveball with a 1 to 7 break. Cox needs to maintain the same arm speed on his breaking ball that he does on his fastball to improve the break and to not tip the hitters. He is a solid prospect, and is also a good student.
