Verhage is a strong bodied young first baseman from Wisconsin who we’ve seen at many events in the past. He has the strength and the athletic ability to improve at the plate and become a good hitter and will show some bat speed and lift in his swing. He hits out of a crouch now and lunges out to the ball, affecting his balance and allowing the bat to drag. Verhage’s hands at first base were fine and he presents a good target to throw to. Verhage also made 2 short appearances on the mound in Fort Myers, showing a 75-76 mph fastball and 61 mph curveball. Verhage is a very strong student off the field as well and has the type of attitude on the field that coaches notice and appreciate.
