RHP Wes Freie (Wilton, IA): The jury will likely remain out for a while on Freie “third base vs. pitcher”. He flashed his arm strength, throwing 87-89 with an easy delivery and arm action and some sharp 71 mph curveballs. We've seen him in the 90s. The U. Iowa coaches will likely have their opinion heard first. Wesley Freie- 3B- Wilton HS, Wilton, IA- 6'3"/210. Freie ran a solid 7.10-sixty, which is very good for his size and what he offers offensively. He didn’t have one of his best days, but Freie has serious raw power and can hit it out of any park. He has good hands at 3B with solid arm strength. He has a very bright future.

Freie is a strong and mature 6-3, 210 lb third baseman/right handed pitcher from Iowa. He’s been the #2 ranked high school prospect in Iowa for some time and has signed with University of Iowa. He participated in the workout portion of the Spring Top Prospect Showcase but couldn’t play or pitch in the games because of prior obligations. There is debate on the Perfect Game staff as to whether Freie’s ultimate future is on the mound or in the batter’s box and it’s a positive discussion because Freie does impressive things in both roles. He’s a 90 mph pitcher now with plus power at the plate and the athletic ability to play third base at a high level.

Wesley Freie is a 2005 3B/RHP from Wilton, Iowa, with a strong 6'3", 215 lb. frame. Freie is a top two way prospect that could play at any school in the country. On the mound he throws from a 3/4 arm slot with a quick and fluid arm. He throws slightly across his body and that helps add some arm side tail to his fastball that topped out at 89 mph and worked in the 87-89 mph range. Freie also showed a plus slider at 81 mph that was virtually unhittable at times. He also mixes in a 76 mph curveball with tight spin, and a 79 mph change up that might be a split finger pitch. He mixed all of his pitches well, and had the confidence to throw any pitch in any count. He is just as dominant with a bat in his hand. He hits from an open stance that he closes well, and has serious raw power. The ball jumps off his bat, and he will also hit for a high average. Freie is also solid defensively at third base with nice actions and a quick and easy arm. Freie is a top two way prospect and should get some serious attention from the pro scouts this spring. Wesley is a good student.

Wesley Freie is a strong solidly built 6'3/215 3B/RHP from Wilton, IA. He is definitely a high caliber 2-way prospect at the high DI level. He is athletic, runs OK for a big guy, has a good strong throwing arm, shows good instincts and defensive actions, and good soft hands. His bat could be extra special, he can flat out hit and he shows big time power potential with wood. On the mound he topped at 87 in Tropicana Field, but we've seen him at 90. He can pitch!, but the bat plays even larger in our estimation. He played head to head with the best players in the nation and he looked like one of them. Wes is a good student.

Freie is an "05" 3B/RHP from Iowa with a great future. At 6'2/200 he has that big league look about him. He actually looks bigger than 6'2 for some reason. He doesn't run exceptionally fast, but everything else is there. He has a very strong arm, with outstanding natural arm action. Freie is very much a big time hitting and pitching prospect. His swing presently is a bit long, but he creates MLB bat speed and he can flat out mash the ball. Ultimately his future may end up on the hill. In CR he threw consistently mid 80s with a real good mid 70s breaking ball. He's going to end up throwing in the 90s if he sticks with pitching. Right now he's a national level 2-way prospect for "05".
