Travis Bennett is a 2006 OF/P with a 6'1'', 185 lb. frame from Cedar Rapids IA, who attends Jefferson HS. He has some present strength and the promise for more in the future. Bennett is a 7.01 runner in the 60 and was 4.38 down to first base. He showed some raw arm strength from the outfield with a long arm action and could improve his throwing and overall defense with better fundamentals. Bennett's best skills are with the bat. He hits from a crouched, spread stance and has good bat speed. He coils well to set up his swing and explodes to the ball. Bennett is looking to lift and pull the ball and has the bat speed, strength and approach to hit with power. He hit the ball hard and consistently both in BP and during the games. He's a nice young hitter who should continue to improve. Bennett also took a turn on the mound, throwing 82 mph from a low 3/4's release point. He has a big breaking 68 mph curveball and did a good job attacking hitters. Bennett is also a very good student.

Bennett is a 6-1 junior left handed hitting outfielder from Cedar Rapids. He hits out of a spread stance with a bit of a crouch and leg lift trigger. Bennett is looking to pull the ball and showed good bat speed and some loft power in batting practice. Bennett uses his legs well in his swing to add power. He also made good contact in the games and showed himself to be a versatile hitter who should continue to improve with strength and experience. Although Bennett has nice speed at 7.16 and some arm strength from the outfield, he needs some work on his defensive fundamentals before he can become an accomplished defender. Bennett also pitched a couple of innings and showed a flexible, loose arm. He has a free wheeling delivery with lots of arm and leg action and varies his arm angle between side arm and low ¾’s. His fastball was 77-81 mph with some cross body induced run on it and he threw a 62 mph curveball, mostly from the higher release point. Bennett did throw one breaking ball 68 mph that had very good bite to it; we don’t know if he just threw his curveball harder or was working with a slider but this was his best breaking ball. We can see him adding some velocity as he gets older. Bennett is a good student.
