Rooke is a 5-11, 165 lb junior left handed pitcher from Texas with a well proportioned medium build. We saw Rooke at the same event in 2004 prior to the start of his sophomore year and he has definitely improved, which is what you want to see in a young player. He throws from a good balanced delivery with a quick, clean arm stroke. Rooke's fastball is very live from a high 3/4's release point at 82-84 mph. That's a good, healthy 3-5 mph increase from last year and as a projectable 16 year old southpaw with a clean arm, there should be more to come. In fact, if Rooke could get more directional at release and not fall off to the third base side, he might gain a click or two of velocity right now. Rooke's curveball is 68-72 and is very sharp at times. He also threw a developing 77 mph change up. Rooke threw strikes with all his pitches and looked like he had command of the hitters. He's a very good student and a good follow for college coaches.

Thomas Rooke is a 5'10" left handed pitcher in the 2007 class from Spring, Texas, with good overall athletic ability. Rooke throws from a compact delivery with a smooth and easy arm action. His only major mechanical flaw is that he pivots over his front leg, similar to vintage Mitch Williams, and pulls his finish off the plate. Rooke was still able to touch 82-83 mph with his fastball, and you have to believe there’s plenty more velocity in his arm based on his age, arm action and delivery. Rooke’s curveball was a big sweeping breaker at 68-69 that had good spin to it. What also impressed us about Rooke was that he showed some advanced hitting ability as well. He has a very good load and rhythm through the ball, and consistently centers pitches. Rooke had a number of line drive hits in games and just got under a couple of other balls. Rooke lists himself as a secondary first baseman and took infield workouts there, but he also looks plenty athletic enough to play the outfield as well.
