Tate McMillan is a 2005 catcher/first baseman from Erin, Tennessee, with a 6'1", 180 lb. frame. McMillan is an advanced hitter with very good bat speed and a short path to the ball. He has a balanced and athletic swing, and hits line drives. McMillan gets good leverage, and has present power that will continue to improve as his body and game mature. Left handed hitting catchers are in demand, and McMillan's bat can easily play at the next level. McMillan only got 1 hit during the showcase games, but hit the ball well. McMillan can immediately improve his arm strength and pop times by staying behind the ball on his throws and improving his foot quickness. He has a tendency to get under the ball, but he does have arm speed. With his work ethic and attitude, we are sure McMillan will polish his game defensively. His bat is already advanced.

Tate McMillan -- McMillan is a 6-1 junior catcher from Tennessee with a very projectable body. We found out immediately after the showcase that McMillan was suffering from an inner ear problem and probably shouldn’t have been in Fort Myers but we’d really like to see more of this young man in the future. Our scouting notes reflect what must have been going on: Very sound catching fundamentals both throwing and blocking but has slow actions. Very nice swing with good swing path for loft power, but just a bit slow. Everything McMillan did was just a bit slow and off and it was obvious why once we heard more. McMillan is also an outstanding student in the classroom. Make sure to check up on him again this spring or summer. We could grade him fairly good right now, but he's better yet.

Tate is a good left handed hitting catcher. He has a good line drive approach and stays inside the ball well. His bat is quick throw the zone and he showed power potential. He moves well behind the plate and works hard. Projectable good baseball body, his arm should improve a lot over the next couple years. Good hitting 05 catcher with a good work ethic, interesting follow. Top student!

05 catcher with a good projectable body. Arm strength needs to improve, but the rest is all there. Shows hitting ability. Nice compact swing that really gets the bat head through the zone. Slight loft to his swing, he's probably going to hit with some wood bat power.
