Defensively he has good quickness with his feet on his throws to second base, and his quickness allows him to do a good job of blocking balls from side to side. Arp has an accurate arm on his throws with pop times consistently around 2.00. He handles pitchers well, and has soft hands. At the plate he is a right handed hitter with a simple line drive swing. He stays balanced and hits through the ball consistently hitting line drives to all fields. Arp is a smart player who knows the game and how to play. He plays hard.

C Ryan Arp: Arp has consistently hit the ball hard this spring, showing good extra base power to left centerfield and hitting a couple of balls during Spring League play that would have easily cleared the left center to centerfield fence with metal in his hands. During the Showcase, he chanced into facing a couple of left handers and Arp pretty much dominates lefties at this level. He even lined a triple off Showcase star Mark Bennett, who struck out nine hitters in three innings. Arp’s been working on staying back on pitches as he tends to jump out to his front side and it seems to be working well. His catching has been solid and he’s throwing the ball well, too. Arp has committed to Johnson County (KS) Community College.

Arp, the son of Perfect Game USA staff member Jim Arp, swung the bat as well as we’ve seen him in Fort Myers. He has a solid base at the plate, good hand strength and level swing that stays on the ball plane for a long time. Arp showed the ability to hit the ball hard to right centerfield in game situations. We’ve seen Arp in the low 80’s with a good slider off the mound in the past, so it was evident that his arm strength was in mid-winter Iowa form during the workouts. Ryan is a very good student with championship caliber makeup.

Arp is a Junior catcher that we have seen many times. We have seen him throw and run better times than his 2.20 pop and 7.6 in the 60 showed. His swing was coming together and looking as smoth as we have seen it at the the Midwest showcase. In BP he hit all line drives and was swinging within himself. He has become a more aware receiver and handled 2 very sharp pitchers he had not previously seen. He made adjustments and looked like a player !

Arp is a 5 foot 11, 170 pound catcher who has made strides in his offensive and defensive game over the past year. He shows some receiving ability and has good experience being able to catch some very advanced pitchers in High School, namely Top National prospect, left-hander Ryan Sweeney. He has thrown with 72 mph velocity on his pop times and improved his footwork at the same time. His body has plenty of room for growth and we have already seen the result of his strength gains with the bat. His bat-speed has improved and he showed good hitting ability with wood. He can center the ball well and showed opposite field line-drive hitting ability. He is only a junior and we expect a steady increase in Arp's physical growth and baseball ability over the next year.

Arp is a Junior catcher from Iowa that we have seen several times before. The first thing you notice about Arp is that he can hit and he can hit with wood. He has a good catchers’ build at his age, and understands the game and position very well. His tools will play at the college level. At the plate, Ryan hit some hard line drives, with the wood. His hitting mechanics are very solid. He has a small and quick load and a short, straight to the ball type swing. His weight transfer and lower body (legs and hips) work very well. He has quick hips and generated good bat speed while staying in control of his body. He does a nice job of staying inside the ball with both good balance and quick hands. His bat is short to the ball, long through the zone with good extension and he finishes high. It’s really a beautiful swing. As he gets stronger, he will become even better better yet, with that swing and his knowledge of hitting. Behind the plate Arp has soft hands, good instincts and again a good knowledge of the position.. He knows how to frame and receives with a relaxed wrist. He has good feet behind the plate but looked a bit stiffer than what we have seen from him in the past. His pop times were mostly in the 2.1 range. We clocked his velocity at 72 mph on his pop time throws. He showed his bat as his best tool, it could easily develop into a pro level tool. The potential for him to catch at a high level is there also. We are fortunate enough to be able to follow his progress closely and will do so in the spring and summer. He’s a true baseball player who plays for keeps.

Good body, projects to get stronger. Strong fundamentals, excellent receiver and can hit. Flashes power potential! Has some arm strength, even pitches a little. Good solid player who should be a top college catcher. Nice swing, makes contact and drives the ball against top pitching.

Arp is a good young catcher who can handle top pitchers. He has a nice swing and should turn into quite a hitter. As he gains strength, you will see an outstanding player appear.
