WP - Race Hansen is a 2006 SS/OF from Horizon HS in Pleasant Valley, AZ. At 6'3", 185, Race has a large frame and good build. He has an athletic appearance and the size that may make him a corner OF in the future. Race uses an open stance and shows raw power to the pull side from both sides of the plate. He occasionally gets around the ball and hooks it. However, he usually shows good bat speed and the ability to use the middle of the field. Race is also a top student that should get interest from all of the top academic schools.

Hansen has a very nice projectable body for a 2006 player and already shows good strength with the bat, especially from the left side. He has good flow and rhythm to his swing from the left side and the ball jumped off his bat both in the game and during batting practice. Hansen’s bat from the right side was not as advanced and he felt for the ball some with less bat speed. Defensively, Hansen is a primary shortstop right now but he will eventually end up at the corner as he fills out. He’s a 7.67 runner with some arm strength. Race is also a great student who carries a 4.0 average in school.

Hansen just finished his freshman season before attending the Sunshine West Showcase. He already stands at 6 foot 1 with a nice lean frame to grow into and showed us some exciting ability for a young 2006 grad. As a middle infielder he has a good looking arm action and sound approach to fielding ground balls. His arm strength was in the low 70's but he used little effort in throwing to first base and he has plenty of growth and strengthening ahead of him. At the plate he showed a good swing, even handling the wood well showing potential Major League bat-speed. He can swing it. We clocked one of his singles with 88 mph exit speed off his bat and he showed nothing that would indicate he will struggle from switch hitting. He repeats his swing mechanics well. Hansen is a good follow prospect for the '06 class. Good student.
