Arthur Clyde is a 2006 right handed pitcher from Teaneck, NJ with a medium build at 6-3, 185 lbs with long limbs. He throws from a high 3/4's release point with good extension out front. Clyde has good balance over the rubber and gets good drive to the plate. His fastball touched 90 mph in Atlanta and looked like it was jumping on hitters at the last second. Clyde throws both a curveball and a slider. His slider is his top pitch, with very sharp breaking action at 79 mph. His curveball is a big breaking 69 mph change of pace to keep hitters off balance. Clyde also got very nice tailing action on a 77 mph change up. This was the best we've seen Clyde throw; he had four solid pitches and had command of all of them. He could be coming on quickly. He has signed to attend High Point.

Clyde is a lean and projectable 6-1 right handed pitcher from New Jersey. We were really impressed with how loose and tension free Clyde’s arm is. The ball comes out of his hand very easily and it’s the kind of quality arm action you don’t see very often. Clyde showed nice arm strength, throwing 84-87 mph on his fastball. It’s all arm speed right now because he gets very little help from his lower half and rushes through any balance point he might have. With some gather in his delivery and better use of his lower half, Clyde might be able to throw 90 mph right now. Clyde showed a 66 mph curveball and a 73-77 mph change up but both pitches are works in progress right now. Clyde also has the chance to make himself into a position prospect as a third baseman. He showed light feet and good agility in infield drills, along with a strong, whippy arm. Clyde is a switch hitter who is better from the left side. He has very nice coil and load before he swings and has bat speed and good extension. It looks like he’s going to hit with some power and the ball jumped off his bat well. Keep a strong eye on him both ways! Clyde is a good student.

Arthur Clyde -- Clyde is an athletic 6-1 sophomore pitcher/third baseman from New Jersey. He has a very projectable body and should grow into a strong and physical player. We’re not sure we evaluate Clyde higher as a pitcher or a player, although he lists himself as a primary pitcher. Clyde showed us good actions at third base and a strong arm across the infield, hitting 83 mph. In fact, our scouting notes say ‘pitcher’s arm action” in his infield notes. Clyde is also a switch hitter with a very nice, smooth swing from the right side of the plate that should develop nicely as he gets stronger. Our concern with Clyde on the mound is he over strides with his lead leg and ends up throwing severely up hill, losing arm strength and the ability he would have to spin the ball. Clyde touched 80 mph but mostly threw 75 for 4 innings and we know he can do much better than that. This is a very personable young man, too, and one that can really take some big steps as a baseball player with normal strength maturation and better mechanics. He's a good student and an excellent "06" prospect
