Angel Nicolas is a very live bodied 5'10" middle infielder from Miami, Florida. He ran the fastest time at the event in the 60 at 6.73 and looked very quick doing it. Nicolas’ actions during the infield workout were a bit forced and mechanical, but he shined during the games on defense and made several nice, smooth plays at shortstop. His range, quickness and arm strength are all solid college level. Evaluating Nicolas as a hitter followed a similar pattern. His batting practice swing, while showing some hand strength, was forced with little help from his lower body and little rhythm. During his game at bats, Nicolas was much looser and quicker to the ball and showed some bat speed and good hitting potential. Nicolas showed a very good attitude on and off the field, and impressed our scouts with his hustle and approach to the game. Angel has tools and can play the game!
