Jerry Knowles is a 5'9" catcher in the 2006 class from Katy, Texas. He has some good skills and the ability to improve in the future. More strength is obviously going to help, but Knowles uses his 145 lbs. well, and has wiry strength both with the bat and behind the plate. The most important thing for Knowles to work on, however, is to get off his heals and get his momentum moving through the ball both offensively and defensively. He’s a flat footed player right now. Defensively, Knowles shows good quickness shifting to balls and in his release, and worked hard. His arm strength and pop times will immediately improve when he gets off his heals. At the plate, Knowles has no stride or lower half involvement in his swing and very little hand load. He still showed the ability to get the bat head to the ball and had a couple of nice game hits. Knowles looks like he has a "ball player" type approach to the game.
