Jake Ornstein is a 2006 outfielder/left handed pitcher from New York, NY with an athletic build at 5-11, 180 lbs. He's a very good runner at 6.68 in the 60 and shows very good range in the outfield. His arm strength is solid college level with good accuracy. Ornstein is one of the rare backwards platoon players in that he throws left handed but bats right handed. He hits out of a deep crouched stance with a high elbow and no stride or trigger. Ornstein has very quick and strong hands which enables him to create very good bat speed. He has some upper cut in his swing and shows power potential. Ornstein's approach is very unconventional, sort of like Jeff Bagwell's with less hand action, and one wonders with his excellent tools and athletic ability whether he might fair better against upper level pitching with a more standard approach. Ornstein is an incredible student who will be attending Emory University.

Ornstein was sick at the Showcase and unable to finish workouts or play in the games. He has shown us good ability in the past and we look forward to seeing him again in the future. Hard to grade accurately, He is strong, can run and play the game. Very good student.

Jacob Ornstein is a 2006 OF from New York, New York, with a 5'11", 180 lb. frame. He might have been the best athlete of the day. He ran a very good 6.8-60, and ran a 4.3 to first base. He showed to be an outstanding outfielder as well with good arm strength and very good carry on his throws. Ornstein was accurate, and got his body in the proper position to throw the baseball. Ornstein did not take BP, but hit the ball very well during the game. He hit out of a straight stance with a good solid medium base. His approach was quick, and he had good bat speed. He has a high finish like most power hitters. Once he realizes that his speed is a huge asset, and he works on getting out of the box quicker, he can be a 4.0 runner to first base. Ornstein is strong, and showed good all around baseball skills and athleticism. He is an excellent student with over 1500 on the SAT’s, and should definitely play Division 1 baseball after graduation.

Jacob Ornstein is a 2006 outfielder from New York, NY. He has a 5'11", 180 pound frame with a mature body, and was named to the Underclass Top Prospect Team. He hits with an open, wide stance, and has an aggressive approach to the ball. He displayed good opposite field power with quick hands, and stayed inside the ball well. Ornstein showed great actions in the field, and used his speed (7.12-60) to get great jumps. He also showed a nice accurate arm at 78 mph from the outfield. Jacob is a strong student.
